Default a big thank you to the instructors!!!

As I posted this in another thread, I felt that I should make a thread entirely upon this as I feel compelled to mention the helpful and great positive help that the majority of the instructors gave to everyone.

Without you guys, this expo would have not been possible...even with all of trey's work.

Now the not so good part: I did NOT like my first instructor. If he is reading this....this does not mean he can not drive, but the first day at the expo I was waiting in excess of 10-15 minutes for the first 2 sessions each, and he did not even show up the third session... (thank you lee for stepping up and being a kick *** instructor the third session). This of course impact the learning curve I had with this track since everyone else had their warm up and initial track time in my session but me.

This is not to insult anyone at all, and should NOT be taking as a negative thread, but I DO want to emphasize, in future expo's and race events, if you feel that you are too busy with your own racing and such, PLEASE do not step up to be an instructor. While your intentions may be for only the best, your tardiness or forgetfulness can really have the opposite effect than your intentions...

In addition, I felt this unnamed "instructor" did not mention anything useful to me at all, except that to track out more when approaching the back straightaway. He also mentioned that turn #10 should be a 3rd gear turn for me...which made no sense after I was taking the turn in 2nd gear.

I am not blaming anyone for my mistakes except myself. However, I do feel that I was screwed by this instructor.

Lastly, special thanks to Lee, and Yasu (ATS) for stepping up and really schooling me on the track and having faith in my driving...moreover enough to step into my car...even when it was not their responsibility to.
Yasu was nice enough to stay longer at the track than he was planning to be my instructor on the 2nd day.

lastly, heres to to expo 3, and to all the friendly h-t members

edit: BTW....yasu was very cool...he didnt say one word even when i threw my tranny into 5th on the front straight away because I forgot where I was for a moment

I will second that... I feel as if I learned more in the 2 days at Beaver than in all the AutoX's combined. My instructor Owned! Thanks Chad! I had the most fun of the whole weekend rolling all the R's in the hatchcrap.

I would like to thank the instructors to, namely RJ for stepping up twice on sunday when my instructor didnt show up for ANY of my sessions. He gave me good pointers and then signed me off for one and a half sessions, which was a big boost to my confidence. Again, thanks instructors!

Deleted my post as it was way too negative given how amazing the expo really was.

I didn't mean to offend or overstep any bounds, but saw an opportunity to share my experience, which of course ended up positive even though there was some negative.

The instructors do desrve a good deal of thanks (Most missed lunch on Saturday).

I also overloaded them with 4 Students although for the most part the 4th (Advanced student) should have been low maintenance.

This trhead has takenb a wrong turn Soup but I don't have any issue with this. I do apologize to those of you who had to wait and am glad people like Yasu were able to step in and be such an assett. Sunds like Yasu had such a good time he wants to come to Expo 4 (Stay tuned).

That said I will ask everyone that had to wait in the grid more than 3-4 minutyres and definitely more than once (And most certainly if the instructor never came) with their name. I can look it up on my spread sheet but would prefer a message. This will help with future instructor choices.

since this thread seemed somewhat negative, I wanted to add that I had absolutely no problems whatsoever with my instructor.. he was an awesome guy that went out of his way to get me more track time, teach me as much as my brain could absorb, and show me tips and tricks on reading the feel of the car/wear of tires/etc.. I have nothing but the utmost respect for him.. he wasn't even running his car on sunday, but stayed until the 2nd to last session of the whole weekend so that he could ride along with me and help me more.. and we went out and drank some beers saturday night! a HUGE to all the instructors for their hard work, especially the guy helping me!

i look forward to further instruction from him at events in the future..

A big thanks to John Felton my instructor for his patience with me. It took a while for me to really get comfortable out on the track.
Also thanks to the other instructor John sent me out with on the 2nd session Sunday. Sorry can't remember his name. Maybe Cory? He pushed me a bit harder and I actually drove a lot faster with him. He had a bit more aggressive instructing style which I seemed to respond better too. That's not a knock on John but just goes to show sometimes you'll click better with a different person.

Corey rocked as well!! Nothing like an instructor asking you to put in Fast & Furious on the PS2 before taking off on the 1st run. Definately learned a lot about the car's capabilities

Marc ---> who never got passed on Saturday or Sunday.

I'd like to add my thanks to the two instructors who rode with me, my first was Dropspeed who I got to show the track on his first time out, he said i was good to go solo for my second run. On sunday morning, i convinced Warren to join me, I'm becoming more and more fond of his teaching style (he doesn't let anything slip, it was a bit overwhelming at VIR, but it certainly does get my *** in line and makes me drive better)

I was telling Gina how mild-mannered Warren **** becomes Captain Instructo, enemy of lift, when he's in the passenger seat; "GET BACK ON THAT GAS NOW NOW NOW!!!"

i was using a happy medium between being quiet and getting loud and yelling...

the front striaght is a good place to give a brief note on what you want them to do on the next lap and then during the lap shout instructions.

"one input!"

"wait... wait... wait... now!"

"gas gas gas! dont lift off evAr in that turn"

To clarify for the people that are unaware, Scott was the person that provided the in-car video of the track from last year. Being that I had never been there and he had to showed me the line in the first outing I felt "in good confidance" that he was able to lap the track without my assistance so I was able to concentrate on my other students as well as rid m self of a terrible head ache...................So I wouldn't throw up in students cars "Cough Cough JACK Cough COugh"

A big thanks to Willard. Even though he lost his voice and generally couldn't be heard over my ricey exhaust, he made plenty of wild "mash the throttle" and "wait wait TURN TURN TURN" gestures with his hands. As overworked as he was with other students and tech projects, he was a lot of fun and a teacher.

On a more personal note, I also would like to thank him for not shatting on my alcantera.

I think Georges point hits a key note here...............

sometimes instructing styles do not mix with learning styles, Jon had the gusto to see that and make a change that in the end was better for his student

Corey is one of the best. He feels the car as well or better than you and has no fear. He will yell loud at you when you are doing something wrong but scream at you when you are doing it right. I cannot mention the names he has called me on track for not doing things right, but when I get them right he gets that adrenaline pumping so fast you think you were pulling mach 3.

Instructing is not easy, and frankly takes some trust to accomplish. I cannot comment on the actions of instructors in the car or on the grid per-sey but commend them for having the ***** to put their well being in the hands of another

A big Thanks to Trey, and George for asking me to be a part of the EXPO.. I had an awesome time...

I went out for my first instructors session came in a little early to wait for my INT 2 student on grid, but he thought I was going to try and find him in the paddock.. Whoops.. I waited and waited, then was asked to jump in another students car whose instructor never showed up. I was able to get Brandon(my original INT 2 student) out for the INT 1 session with a different instructor.. Thanks Will !!

A big to Ed Sackley (sp?) This "kid" will do well in racing. He was my instructor and I went out with him on his first run. He learned the line in one lap and was at insane speeds immediately. A great driver and GREAT instructor !
