gauge hookup

Default gauge hookup

i know this is kinda a newbie question but i want to do it right..

i have a mechanical oil pressure gauge and an air/fuel gauge(yes i know the air/fuel are not accurate....) but i would like to know where you guys hooked up positive wires on the gauges? .. i was thinking that a good place was behind the cars gauge panel but i dont know any help would be great thanks!

i don't know if this is what your askin but i hook my gauges power to the ignition switch wire it's the fat yellow one uder the steering column

depending on which side you put them on you can use the 12V going to the radio or the 12V going to the ignition.

so would that work for the power to both of then i really dont mind if the light in the oil gauge stays on i just want to do them right.

just hook the power from one gauge to the other then to the 12V source. basically a series connection.

as for illumination, i used the cig lighter illumination since i don't really care if its lit up or not...

just grab a voltmetere and test wires to see what has 12V when the ignition is on and 0V when the ignition is off. if you mount gauges on the left side, the wires going into the underdash fuse panel are your friend.

ok thanks and you could also hook it up on the radio power supply?
