Default AEM CAI or cheap ebay CAI???

Is the AEM really worth the extra $100 or so? I'm assuming the cheap ones have a real cheap filter that will have to be replaced with a good K&N or something anyways. I have the money for the AEM but if I can save a buck all the better. I have an Injen short ram right now but think the CAI will be worth the money over it. There are a lot of AEM CAI's on ebay for about $150 shipped.

And any opinions on color? I'm thinking blue but almost think the grey would look better on my EBP SI.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I don't really care about the carb sticker. We have a DEQ check system out here but I always get around it. Haven't ran a car through it in 6 years so I'm not stressing it. I was just more curious about performance between the two. As long as I will get the same gain out of the cheap one and it is a decent quality, I can live without the carb sticker or AEM sticker.

IMO for cheap knock offs.

Why buy a Rolex, when you can buy a Lolex off the street in Taiwan! hehe

But seriously....how do you know that the ebay ones will work like all the others do. You don't know exactly how well they run, what quality they are, can you return it? do they have tech support?

IMO I'd rather buy from someone who has done the work and knows how to design the part. Not from someone who knows how to copy.

It's a pipe and a filter. You know how it works. Why would you need to return it? Tech support? You need tech support for a pipe and a filter? I'm a dumbass when it comes to cars, but even I can install a cold air intake.

I'm sorry but i like the fact of not being legal.......we all know that illegal fireworks are better than the legal ones...............we all do illegal things jus to see if we can get away with it. So why not do this, it will be a risk I am willing to take.

I can you get a CAI AEM style specific to your car for 75 shipped. Grey in color like AEM. The filter is much better than you think it is, even I was surprised.

i bet AEM uses a high tech metal with there intake, you it makes the air flow that much more quicker then the imitation one. oh wait, there is something inside the AEM that noone knows about, the tornado product you see on tv!

So what if I bought the $30 intake and went to a sticker shop to get the AEM sticker and CARB sticker made? Do you think that would pass the CA Smog Ref? You can get the CARB # from here:
http://www.arb.ca.gov/aftermkt/aftermkt.exe

Opps. Try this one then:
http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/a...s.htm

Then select "Air Filter/Intake Modification", then scroll down to find the correct number. Most AEM numbers are in the "D-392-1" to "D-392-18" range.
