today i popped my hatch to get my stuff out and went to close it but it wouldnt shut. so i turned the key and tried to shut it again and i thought it did shut. drove home and found out that the hatch was still not latching shut!!! it goes all the way down, its just that the latch wont keep the hatch locked down... any ideas?

 

Is the hatch release lever all the way down? The lever where you pop the hatch open from the inside as well as the gas tank cover.... check that cause sometimes it can get stuck on something.

 

Find somone to help you. One person sit inside the hatch and one person opens and closes the hatch. Check to see how far the latch is from locking. You can adjust it by taking off the screws and maybe using a hammer. In my case i put a little washer piece in so it would match up.

If it has been closing with no problems, untill recently, and u havent changed anything then i would doubt its unaligned.... Probably something with the actually locking mechanism. Try having somebody look at it from inside, to see if its actually locking when u close it. Or pull the mechanism out and see whats wrong... Sometimes its a broken spring or just needs some wd40 to do the trick
