Default How do you improve on a below average ITR??

Many of you have mentioned that the ITR averages at 158whp. Which means there a lot of unlucky SOB's with 150 and up whp. I may be one of them!! So, what exactly is "less than par" in terms of engine/tranny parts that causes this?

And can this be improved upon. I mean I don't want to just go and drop in CAMS, work on the engine just to gain the same power as another ITR. What I want to fix are the problems that cause the ITR to be underpowered.

Could always have your head Extrude Honed and port match your intake manifold to it. That would be a nice improvement.

Boba- who thinks you should get a NOS kit and spray it, that'll make up for it.

I might check things like timing, valve clearance, belt tension, new air filter, new oil, spark plugs (looking for consistency), as well as a compression check.

Any or all of these might help you find out why you have a weaker car. But maybe it¡¦s just in your head. Side by side I have not seen one stock typeR walk on another. Perhaps the error is in the tolerance in the dyno results?

Timing is a BIG thing! Changing the timing from 13 to 16 made about an 6 hp difference. (Went from 151 to 157). No, I have no idea why the hell the timing was set like that from the factory.

Jason- Who is happy now, but will be even happier once he has lumpy idle!

hi TypeRJason
my 01 R has a broken bearing in the engine block and my dealer is going to replace the whole block (but not the head)
do u think it's ok for them to do assemble the head and the block and still have the same performance like it is assemble in Japan?
i heard that u have some similar experience, how is ur engine turn out?
thx in advance!

Yeah agree with BABY NSX...

Also do u all feel that, IF u don't kick your car sometimes, your engine won't get as "fast" as the others?(I know this is kinda confusing here but hope u all understand, mah eng iz baddddddd!)

That happens on my dads Volvo and my friend's EK4 hatchback. U know how your parents drive, they rarely push the car. But during those days I drive the 850Turbo to work, I push it pretty hard sometimes. Whole car's reacts better, better gas mileage and power comes easier etc.

P.S. Not telling u guys to go speeding, but I chose to push it to around 6000rpm on my own civic, and around 5500rpm on the volvo(ahh volvo eat quite some gas though), both runs great! Maybe do that in 1st gear? U guys with TypeR will be speeding in 2nd gear if u go up to 7000-7500rpm LOL

Bunch of BS here sorry guys!

Forced Induction will make up for any factory power short-comings!

Listen, this is the Internet! JonnyR could be Jacques Villeneuve for all you know. Why does everyone asume that people don't know how to drive? I know everyone could use a little improvement (some more than others) but why take this whole thing off topic with remarks like that?

If JonnyR wanted to know what driving schools might make him a better driver I'm sure he'd ask!

Timing is the main thing that makes one engine from the same factory stronger or less strong than another. If all the engines are blueprinted(assembled according to exact spec and tolerances), cams should be centerlined. It's a procedure that takes a long time and needs to be done by hand. For the sake of lower costs, they're not centerlined. That means that one engine will probably have slightly different timing from another.

Thnx for the defense Baby NSX. Actually, I have been in the racing circuit for a while....and off for a year now(haven't tracked my car since I shipped it to Alberta)!

In toronto, I started out with a 95 Integra RS with an I/H/E, ignition, Eibach, Stage-3 and lightened flywheel...oh and some nice neuspeed bars. I was at most instances taking off and beating stock type R's on Track, but it took a while to get Heel toeing and shift working with a Stage-3!

So, yes, I don't think it is me....But I do agree a driver makes a big difference, case in point, that post with the Supra vs. the ITR on track where the ITR blew it away by like 4 seconds in lap!

I think the car was pushed at the dealership(although it only had like 25 kms on it). But it may also be assembly.

I have thought of NOS.....but that won't help me on track.....unless I have some long straightways! Like that Air force base in Edmonton!

SHeeeeeeeeeeeet I miss TO....and the nice tracks!

Oh well, I put the AEM in, reset the ECU, advanced the timing 3 degrees, and it seems faster.....now to find an innocent ITR...hehe..like ITR's are innocent

thnx for the input guys...if nE1 has gone back to the dealership for this reason, please post your experience!

Jimbob are you referring to Ignition timing? or Cam?
