Default How do you get the D15 Distributor to come off the head?

I know there are 3 bolts. Well some genius decided it would be good engineering to put the top bolt in a place where no socket wrench can reach it. I tried using various other wrenches (box end wouldn't fit, open wrench would start to strip it, flare nut wrench even would start to strip it). The bolt has a + on it for a screw driver but I highly doubt a screw driver is going to get that off. Anyone have any specials ways to do this?

I'm not sure about that. What kind of socket? Short one? It really doesn't seem like that will fit, unless I have some weird Dist on my car or something. I will take a picture in the morning and show you. Maybe if I use my sort of bending elbow part or something.

Try some vise grips. That's what it took to get mine off.

I dunno what you're talkin about either. I stripped that top bolt and just used vice grips.. works fine.

Today I tried vice grips and screw drivers and even an extension with a socket on it. You are on crack if you think that a socket will work. Terrible terrible design. If this engine wasn't blown I would be very pissed.

Well it doesn't work on mine. I assume Honda had different styles of Distrubutors (just like Mitsuba and Denso make the same parts for the same car and its a toss up which one you get sometimes it seems). So whatever one this is is a terrible design. I know if I take out the cam and this other part I can get it off, or dremel off the nut since who cares anymore.

Im not using it on my ZC but I would like to take if off since it still works fine and it may be of use to someone else at another time.

I feel you man. Maybe a short cheap thin wall socket will fit on there, But I have a 1/4 inch drive craftsman set, And that **** wouldn't even fit. I tried everything and ended up rounding the bolt off. So I did what any cool guy would do, I took my dremel and let the sparks fly... Worked like a charm. I agree with you on the bad engineering on the dizzy, What the hell were they thinking?

I had the same problem, stripped the bolt to. I took a hacksaw to the bolt. So use a hacksaw and just replace the bolt.

Hacksaw? Man thats too much work lol. The dremel works great, Just gotta be steady so you dont **** up the dizzy case. If you do it with the dremels cord facing the drivers side the sparks fly at you. I had my fuel line off, So that worried me, But it's all good!

I'm glad other people feel my pain. I tried dremeling it off today but my wheel ground down to small and it wouldn't work but then I went off to do wiring and more important things.

2 words: Impact Driver---used for rotor screws and other stubborn philips or flathead bolts. I bought one and it is real handy in situations like this. Guaranteed to get that dizzy off. Cant go wrong.

I couldn't even get a regular screw driver to go in right, let alone the big fat impact driver.

Oh..didnt know the actual screwdriver threads were messed up...BTW my impact driver came with various sized tips...just a suggestion. Worse comes to worse hacksaw that *****...get a bolt from the JY. Not a big issue being its incompatible with your ZC. Is your MPFI done?

Screwdriver part isn't messed up, I'm just saying to even get a screwdriver to get in the threads it was on a bad angle, impact drivers are pretty fat so still i doubt they would work.

Has anyone on this board taken off a dizzy b4? Why the hell havnt you had these problems. He couldnt get a screwdriver cuz the bolt isnt in a place to where the screwdriver will go in straight.. if he tried it with a screwdriver he'd just strip it.

Hey man some big vice grips will work. Tighten them onto the bolt REAL tight. then its freakin cake. I thought I was fucked untill a friend suggested I use his vice grips.

Right..I forget the placement of those bolts....alright then Snap-on makes special curved sockets made to catch the edges of already-stripping bolts. I'm sure one of you guys have seen these b4. I only used one once before when I was at the junkyard getting my ding-free fenders. The bottom bolt was half stripped, then the hick owner gave me the socket and it came right off.

I just remembered I have a small like flexible elbow for my 1/4 wrench. I wonder if that is small enough to work.
