I installed my timing belt tonight buy could not line up the marks perfectly. I ende up about 2-3 degrees retarded from the white mark on the crank pulley. Is this normal?

Tried to line up the marks again tonite. There's no way around it...either 2 degrees advanced or 2 degree retarded on the crank shaft pulley (with the cam gears lined up). If I make the gear kinda offset, then the crank shaft pulley would almost be exactly lined up.
Just a stupid question but did you change the head gasket for a thinner one or have the head machined ?
EDIT: Forget that...the markings would be advance a few degrees at the crankshaft, not retarded
Did you change anything before you reinstalled the timing belt ?

The white TDC mark is 2 degrees to the left (counter clockwise) to the timing mark on the lower cover. This is how it was before changing the belt as well.
Which position is better...crank pulley white mark 2 degrees clockwise of timing mark or crank pulley white mark 2 degrees counter clockwise of timing mark.
