More Expo PIC's and my take on the whole sha'bang!
First I must again thank Trey and ALL who were involved in making this event possible, the memory will last a lifetime for me. I've only been doing this crazy stuff for a bit over a year but, this past weekend was the best assembled one that I've seen yet.
Next, I borrowed this pic since my friends haven't yet posted more of us:
This is me getting rolled by the new Lancer Evolution
!!! And YES it was fast! I spoke to the driver after this session on Saturday and asked him about how fast he remembered doing the front straight... He said "conservatively, about 125 MPH!" I'm sure he rolled a few others in our run group. Ross? Reid?
Before I get some much needed rest. To all those I finally met, It was a pleasure. I commented to my wife when I came home at how all of us were just such a nice group of people with a single common bond the ITR. Regardless of if you were an event organizer, instructor, driver, owner, general enthusiests or sponsor, it was a pleasure to meet you all and we are an impressive group.
And yes, I left early due to my brake issue Bryan and others,,, I'll figure it all out hopefully this week and Andie I will call you as soon as I need the pads.
Special thanks to my instructor Bryan Sprinkel, You were great.
Sorry if I rambled a bit, I am just so satisfied and tired at the same time.
See many of you soon and others online till next year.
Anton
PS if you have an R and you missed this for whatever reason, you really missed something special but, you can always start to plan Now for next year...

My trip back was fine if thats what you mean. Although it wasn't nearly as fun as going there with 7 or 8 other R's in a pack.

Maybe when Frank, aka Ghettoracer was driving. More like 110-115 most of the time though.

All I remember was giving him point bye's and when I was holding at 80 or so MPH he passed me like I was standing still.
And Warren, I was told I missed out on a stomach churning good time for a ride with you. Wish I remembered to ask you for a spin.
Yes Chris but, I do remember You.

I was booked solid on rides. I didn't get any solo sessions all weekend long, and I went out on a BUNCH of sessions. Only one person got moderately ill
It was like a rollercoaster. Line starts here. Please keep hands inside at all times.
I don't mind though. I like giving people rides and hopefully opening up their eyes to what our cars are capable of. The only thing I don't like is that I won't go full tilt boogie with a passenger. Only 9/10th's max. Scaring myself is okay. Scaring the passenger is bad

the "whooosh" of that thing barreling down the front straight while standing in grid was just f'in cool.
I had to bolt my doors back on after he passed me

Warren. Thanks for your instruction. You were an integral part of my learning experience this weekend.
When Frank (Ghetto racer) was running my Evo, he was a hair off the redline by the end of the front straight. He was very close to 130mph. He showed me that a slightmy more optimal way through the hairpin at the back straight was to get the car down to 2nd, rather than 3rd which I was doing previously. He also was showing me a technique around the course that allowed me to ever so slightly drift the car to begin it's rotation into a turn. On my last run of the day, I was also going down to 2nd and allowing the car to rotate a little more. and as a result of the better acceleration coming out of the corner, I was also able to get up near the redline at the end of the straight.
Cheese~

Glad you had fun out there. As for trail braking, which is what Frank is referring to, I prefer that students not do it until they are more advanced, simply because it can get you into trouble if you don't react correctly. That's a very nice and pretty expensive car, and I sure as heck didn't wanna it muddied up!

Then Frank needs to learn to not try passing people without a pointby, in the kink, driving someone elses car.
Evan
-who wasnt happy about having to brake, in the marbles, in the middle of a high speed corner to avoid getting hit.

No, you need the ATS Final Drive that I have and gave to Dave.
If I kept a good line and good speed I came up those hills just fine. about the same as you guys did when you shifted to 2nd.
If there was traffic, downshifting to 2nd gave me a decisive advantage and was strong as hell.
Of course power is not my issue, just ask Bryan
I never felt endangered by anyone on the course BTW. I thought we all did a very good job with point bye's and had good track manners.

What the hell is the EVO hangout with the ITR guys.
, lol. Giving alot of ITR guys to think about, lol.
I wish I would have made it out there (no, I don't own a ITR but consider the fact ITR is a manificant car and a dying breed as well
, I mean, ITR gettin stolen frequently), who knows, maybe next year.
It sounds like there was more of a turn out this year than pervious.

I know Final Drive will help but I still enjoy doing 2 down-shift (from 4 to 2), keep the good line, back on gas, let the LSD do the job and get back to the main straight.
BTW......i wonder what a aftermarket LSD will make a different in that uphill turn. Anyone driving a non-oem LSD at the Expo ????

do you guys really think that a 2nd downshift was faster or smoother?
My students were trying it both ways. I found that if the student was going to 2nd they would overslow the car, but the lower gear would pull more and feel faster. You didnt feel the pull in your *** as much in 3rd, but it was smoother and seemed to me to be ultimately faster. I believe 3 of my students decided by sunday that 3rd was the best gear to be in. Decreasing number of shifts is a good thing, and shifting in the middle of a corner is definately a bad thing.
I know my car was better in 3rd in that corner, even with the horrible turbo lag.
