Default A/C system 90% out today... (insert pic of me flipping off my CRX)

Not really much to say, I just took the A/C system out of my CRX today. Everything but the compressor is now out. It all went just as I thought it would, with some cursing and pain thrown into the mix as well.

The biggest problem I found was the damn condenser in the front would not fit between the radiator and the frame. I didn't wanna force the radiator too much because I thought it was flexing. When I finally realized the mushy feel was just the radiator hose and not the radiator itself the condenser came right out (over a 20 minute period of time).

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask while its still fresh in my mind.

To get the condensor out I just unbolted the radiator brackets and tilted back the radiator and pull the condensor right out.

Ditto, it just freaked me when I tilted the radiator and it felt mushy, thought I was bending a bracket or something.

****!!!

Drove car today... something smelled sweet, the got overpowering, then steam pours out the sides of the hood, for a million bucks can neone guess what happened???

Answer: The top of the radiator blew around the engine side seal and poured coolant all over the heat shield and fan (and in turn splattered everywhere). Fun fun.

How much is a new radiator? I'm gonna find out tomorrow neways, just venting, but yah if just rocking the radiator back did that... I doubt it had much life left neways.

Yeah I had a leak in one of my Coolant hoses which sprayed coolant from one side of the engine onto the intake manifold creating white smoke. Took me forever to figure out what was going on.

Beside the fact that your radiator is dead... (BTW: I heard Integra radiators will fit our 4g cars... Can't remember which year though! )

Did you notice any increase in power, due to the weight reduction w/out A/C?

hahaha I didn't take it over 3 grand cuz I didn't wanna overheat the engine on my way to work. Engine sounds louder cuz of the empty space under the dash now though

Under dash part I had fun with actually, it was really easy as long as you have the Non A/C tube to replace the A/C evaporator. The only tough part was disconnecting the lines under the hood to under the dash, huge *** ~20mm bolt and not much room with the PCV on one side and a wiring harness on the other.

Good to hear that it will be back on the road soon So what radiator did you end up going with?? I started ripping apart my rex to find out that the radiator is pretty corroded so I figured that I would get a new one while its all apart.

I used it recently. I didn't notice a difference because my headgasket was blown.
I will be using it again though when I get a radiator flush, along with 50/50.

Radiator is in and all nice engine runs smoother it seems, and idle isn't bumpy anymore, may have had something to do with the A/C belt, I really don't know how it could have been the old coolant/radiator, most of the coolant came out clean as new. Still need to get a new alternator belt to fix the squeaking under acceleration but at least I can reach the belt now.

so did you get the system drained first? How does that work with taking all that out and having a full system?

Call around, about 1 in 3 shops will discharge the A/C system for free, they can resell the refrigerant.
