Default Mobil one

Just got a second oil change at 6600 miles and my friends recommended that I put mobil one 15w-30 in my car instead of 5w-30. I have a jdm header and aem cold air. Is this ok. They said b/c my car gets a lot of abuse that thicker oil will protect it more. Please give your honest opinions of my friends and flame if u want b/c I still have a free oil change from acura and if thats not the right oil I'll bring it to them for another oil change. Thanks

15W-30? I didn't know Mobil 1 existed in such a weight. Oh well, I use Mobil 1 10W-30 and have never had any problems with either one of our R's. If you're speaking about 15W-50, I think that is too heavy for our motors. We'll have to see what others say. I believe this has come up before on the board.

I personally wouldn't stray any further from factory specs than 10W-30. It's what I use for street and track, although I won't back this up with any facts or even my own personal reasons because others will argue no matter what you say. Just my $.02

10w-30 isn't thicker than 5w-30 after the engine warms up.

I stick with what the factory recommends, 5W30. I use Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Performax (full synthetic).

If your car is Turbo'd or SC'd...15w-50 in the summer...10w-40 in the COOL seasons...10w-30 during FREEZING times.

I actually had my bike painted the same color as my R, Flamenco Black Pearl. The bike now looks a little like a 600, but mostly everyone that i race knows that its a 929RR.

Boba- who's dealer thought it was crazy when he bought the CBR and immediately took the stickers off.

I've always considered the Yamaha YZF-R1 the ultimate sport bike, but since the new GSX-R 1000 came out I have to admit that I think the R1 has been dethroned. The GSX-R 1000 ******* RULES! FAST AS HELL. Words can't even describe.

I don't know about forced induction cars, but the factory recommends 5w30. I use Red Line 5w30 street oil which actually provides a higher film strength than most 10w40s. They are the best.

About bikes, my personal favorite is the Ducati 996R. If I am not mistaken Ducatis have won almost every FIM world superbike title since they were introduced. Now that is a racing pedigree. Not the fastest on the street but it is where it matters...the track. Moderators, sorry for going OT but I truly love Ducatis.

For track events, I use Redline 10w40. I used to use Mobil1 10w30 and I always lost a lot of oil after running a few 25 min sessions. But with the 10w40, very little oil lose. Someone at the track actually recommended that I use 10w40.

Dood talk about off topic... haha motorcyles...

Anyhow, as I understood it, 5W-30 is used in winter climate because it's thinner at lower temperatures than 10W-30 or 10W-40. The drawback of course is that at high temperatures it is thinner than 10W-30. Now this doesn't seem to be a problem since Acura recommends 5W-30 for all climates.

Running a thicker oil while offering more protection probally will lower gas mileage and reduce power. It's just a matter of more fluid friction (viscosity). I am kind of considering switching to mobil's 0w-30 to see how it feels in my car. Even less protection, yes, but at the same time I think all the oils that Mobil offers provides more than enough protection. Of course, I don't have a 9k redline or a turbo...

come down here... I'll find the video of Darren's Supra(800whp and change) kicking the **** out of my friend's 130somethingwhp 900RR that's been lightened(roll on from 60mph I think) ... Supposed to be a vid of him putting six or so cars on a Haybusa... I'll wait to see that one before I believe it though... interesting car... seems I remember that there is a blue bottle on top of that figure for "special" races.
