Default brainstorming...pick an engine swap

OK...I've been searching for a new project car to work on and am looking into engine options: All of the below will include a turbo kit of some type...most likely a junkyard system because price is a major factor . Assume these will be going into a 1990 Civic HB SI. Thanks.

if you're planning on turbo, the b16 will net you the best results.

for turbo? go for the b18b. you don't need no VTEC. but you get the extra diaplacement to spool it up quicker, and you get a relatively low compression ratio. Plus, the b18 is much cheaper than the b16a.

I dont happen to agree with the B16 being the best turboed motor... get an LS motor (B18) and the tranny. You can vtec the LS motor when you have more money. You'll have more torque and displacement power then the other motors in the long run i think. The ZC will most likely be your cheapest swap though. Its got ok power but not the best aftermarket support. Its basically up to you.

The stock engine and the ZC will net better results from a junkyard turbo better than the B-series engines will. At least for the least amount of $$ invested.

I will pick B18B over ZC simply because it is a better engine. It may cost more to install, but it's newer, more powerful, and has way more support. Plus, a turbo B18 will kill a turbo ZC even if they run the same boost.

build up the a6, then boost it

would be the cheapest route, and relatively quick

since price is a major factor my first choice would be the b18b. It will have a nice torque curve and be relatively cheap. second choice would be the d16a6 with a nice cam and some porting!!!

I like the idea of having the low end torque of the b18b to offset any lag from the turbo...but I had one that spooled up too quick(i.e. t25), would traction be a problem? What about if it was a t3 or t4?

Go with the zc. The junkyard turboes are the cheapest for the zc and the zc will still put out a lot of power.

D16 or ZC you can make plenty of power with them and your cars front end won't be soo heavy.

you probably already know of the site http://www.homemadeturbo.com, if not go check it out.

Forget about the T25 go with a 14b from the 1st gen eclipse. It is a bit bigger than the t25, can be had from ebay for a hell of a price, and you will get better results form it, as seen on the site.

Good Luck and pick wisely...

As far as turbos, I think it would make sense to go with a small fast spinning one for the ZC....not much torque to begin with so turbo lag would hurt that even more...having never pieced together a turbo before this is just theory.

recommend hybrid engine... b18 head b16 bottom.. i heard they give nice compression and since u're moding this is a nice low end build up price i would say.

zc and a t-25 turbo.. electronic boost controller and rebuild the engine to support is some work but it might be a cheap way to go...
