How can you tell if the JDM Integra Type R block is not JDM Gsr block since the stamping is the same (B18C). Are there any markings that tell you which one is which? Doesn't it say P72 on the oil pan and the belts if its off of a JDM GSR? Please help me!!!
hmm p72 is pretty much universal numbers. the pan are the same numbers on both. i guess you cant really tell. if you find out let me know also thanks

damn...they should have distinguishing marks so people can't get ripped off
cant tell from just the exterior of the block.
and mine says p72 on the oil pan as well.
how about you look at the pistons? header? whats all on this "block" that you're looking at?

How about the intake manifold? Is it attached? Or are you just talking about the block itself? If so, don't the US/JDM GSR's use the same head, thus the same intake manifold? So you can check by that or try bolting on a b16a/type r manifold to see if that works if one isn't already on there. Hope that helps.

the heads are different, if you are speaking of a longblock, though i suppose someone could have swapped them. as someone else said, if the head is off, the jdm itr pistons will say p73-00, while the gsr pistons will say p72. they could have swapped the pistons, but then there's less difference yet. you can pull the oil pan and check the crank. the itr crank is fully counterweighted whereas the gsr is not, and itr rods have an 'R' on the side.
My friend's JDM ITR block was taken apart and the pistons said P73-00 on them. I guess that's the only other way to tell.
And his oil pan says P72 as well.

JDM p72 pistons are domed also. But theywill have p72 instead of p73 on them.

yeah. pull the oil pan and you can tell by looking at the crank, also, you might be able to know by looking at the pistons, if you know waht to look for

The block will say P72, same as GSR, but the rods are stamped with an 'R', the pistons are P73, and the stiffener between the engine and tranny is a stouter 1-piece unit instead of the GSR's 2 piece one.
The heads will say P73...

i guess the R&D team for honda japan didnt expect the swap volume to be so high...everyone including their grandmas in a econobox hatchcrap wants a b18c...

Seems like the did like they often do, took one platform (GSR) and 'enhanced' it, so the foundation parts are common.
Does make it harder tho.
Curious as to what part the other poster thinks is wrong. I've got a JDM R in the garage (but, not a GSR) and the info comes from what I've seen on mine...
