Si tranny broke.... mid rebuild info (56k sorry)
k guys.... as u know i broke my Si tranny baci in november....
well anyways was still cold and today actually went up to 60.. so i decided to start working on my tranny to have it fixed...
well the symptoms on my tranny was... i can go into any gear, but 2nd.. it wouldnt not go into seoncd. was like there was no gear at all... but even on N i would let my clutch go and the car would move.. the tranny got stock on second gear... well for now i am using a DX tranny... but its kinda grinding on 2nd and stuff so i want my si tranny fixed ASAP...
i opened my Si tranny today and found what the problem is...
this!!!!!!
this is part of the select fork for the 1st and 2nd gear... it borke a big chunk off of it...herre u can see how much play the fork had, also where the piece broke off...
and u can now understand why the fork fell out of place and caused the tranny get stuck on 2nd gear....here u can see the fork piece caught on the magnet at the bottom of tranny
well i picked up a known fucked up si tranny from my buddys in order to see if any interior parts where on good condition... i opened it and this is what i found
metal shavings everywhere
a very focked up differential
more metal and crap
and even more chunks and pieces
anyways. this is the pre stage of rebuilding this tranny.... i am going to be studying the synchros to make sure they are good. i will be checkin for any wear on the gears....anbd maybe if i come across a ZC LSD i might slap that in there.... but as i get more progress i will keep updating this for future reference

Hondabond... "Mark made sure to use Hondabond to seal the case sections. According to the experts at Jackson Racing, Failure to use this magic sealer will almost always result in a leaky transmission." ~Honda/Acura Performance SCC
While your at it man, Mind pointing out the main shaft bearing for me? I need to replace mine and I'm not sure where it is... Thanks

anyways look at the main countershaft in the middle....
on top u can see a ball bearing with a lil grove in it.... thats the main shaft bearing</TD></TR></TABLE>
the bearing with the grove in it is the countershaft bearing
the main shaft is the other one, the one with the input splines on it, and it has 2 bearings, one at each end.
My guess is someone told you that you need a new main shaft bearing because you can wiggle the input shaft around, right? the bearing you need to replace is left behind in the tranny case when you pull the gear assembly out.

My 1-2 shift fork took forever to come in...
Anyway, do yourself a favor and use hondabond on the case. Permatex will eventually leak.

that junk trani u got looks much like mine did. busted diff.
uhm is there any point in actually rebuilding that? i can see that u just need to replace the shifting fork, thats easy.
good luck man there are tons of parts.

It's a 91 dx tranny, After a year anytime the clutch is engaged, It makes some fucked noise. I read on here that the throw out bearing makes a whine or squealing sound and the main-shaft bearing makes more of a growl or rumble... I think it started out just being the throw out bearing, But now (well before my motor made a new hole in the block) It has a rumbling/Bearing freezing and starting to stick squeal sound anytime I'm moving or coasting with the clutch disengaged. Also if I let off the gas to slow down in second it'll pop its self out of gear... What do you guys think? I thought If I put in new main shaft and throwout bearings, And filled her up with some fluid all would be fine...

that sounds about right to me. you might want to flush the tranny before putting everything back together. i bet there are some metal flakes in there.
your best bet is to take the tranny apart and get the casings hot tank/cleaned (this is if you find metal in the tranny).

Right now, I'm in the middle of taking out my blown dx motor, Is it possable to take it out with out taking out the tranny too?
take that bearing out while tranny isnt out....
oh hell no....
u gotta have the tranny upright into a mice table... theres too many lil parts. that need to be handle carefully and be put back in place with a certain amount of space in them....

I can't touch the tranny at this time... I'm flat broke, So I'm just going to put fluid in it and pray that it don't seize up between when ever I get it running and when I have the money to fix it. I'm trying to put an 89 a6 into my poor car, But like I said, Im flat broke so I gotta do everything by myself and ghetto like. I got everything un bolted, But I think the absence of a motor hoist is going to bite me in the ***. That's why I ask if I can pull the motor and leave the tranny mounted in there. From what I see, I need to pull up on the motor mount so I can pull it at an angle to get the engine free from the tranny, But this is my first attempt at swapping an engine so I know nothing. What makes things worse is I have about three days before the city I live in fines me $1200 for my car having dead tags, City sticker, And inspection. I'm so stressed lol...

Well, I finally got my engine out, After hours of negative chants and the bloody knuckles. I will never do this again without a lift or an engine hoist. To the point, The main shaft when turned, Sounds like it has sand in the bearings, And wobles like a one legged alcoholic... I'm torn. I have everything right there in front of me, But I can't afford to fix it or do it right. I know this will become a major problem sooner than later. Anyway, keep us updated on you're tranny, Good luck man.
