Help installing shift light....
Hi.. I've got an Autometer Pro Lite shift light thats been sitting in my room for about 8 months, and I'm thinking its about time I get it out of the way and into my car..
Problem is, I don't know where I should connect the wire to get a tach signal.. Is there a wire on the back of the guage cluster that I can use, or do I have to run a wire into the engine bay? If I do that, where do I hook it to? I have what seems like 100 wires added under the hood for my swap, so its really confusing in there..
Anyone have any experience with these lights?
Thanks...

You can run the wire to the tach signal wire that comes in to your gauge cluster. It's the only blue one there. OR you can splice it directly into the wire coming off the distributor, whichis also blue.
What do you guys use a shift light for?
Do you need a light to tell you when to shift?
I have done a bit of hard shifting on tracks, and never needed a shift light..

It's one less thing to concentrate on. Instead of watching the tach for when to shift you are able to check other guges or concentrate more on driving. It becomes reflex to shift when the ligth comes on.
Wednesday I pulled three runs in a row that were within .001 of each other. A lot of that is due to shifting the same each time.

To tell us when to shift!!!
No i used to say that all the time why do you need a **** light but then i got a free one from a friend and i use it all the time. I would always look at my tach and not the road. Now i can see where im going becase im looking up. I use the connection on my MSD tach out put for my shift light. The blue wire on the distributor or down by the ECU will work.
The thing i like the most about it is i can look over at the person im racing as im leaving them and still shift becase i see the light out of the corner of my eye now thats the ****
pic for fun

I guess I don't really NEED one, but I really want to have one.. I mean, I've been alright without it so far.. (only hit the limiter once)
The thing I find is that the B16 just keeps charging faster as the RPM increases, so if I'm trying to look at the road and not watch my tach I like to know when I get to 8,000rpm.
Thanks guys.

Really... OK.. I guess its only a drag thing..
And I love the placement of your shift light.. Not that I ever see myself with one but if I had to I would do it that way..
