Default Buying a used 5th gen

Might be trading my 94 EX for a manual version, found a pretty decent deal. What should I look for before buying it? I know to look for possible bondoed areas and mismatching paint but what else? Any engine issues or tranny issues I should look for? Any common problems? My 5th gen has been pretty much perfect so I was wondering if there are any problems that are common I dont know about.

I would say, make sure it has the recall for the balancer shaft seal performed on it.

5th gens are prone to rust on the rear fender, at the front corners of the wheelwell. Check it thoroughly.

Also, check for buzzing noises coming from the driver's side engine bay when starting up and intermittently after starting, that's the sign of a failed ABS modulator ($1200 to fix at Honda).

since your car is trouble free, keep it no need to get a car with an unknown history.

I would keep it but want a 5 spd for autox usage. Everyone is telling me it is not cost effective to swap trannies...

Run a CARFAX. Get a family or trusted mechanic to look it over inside and out very thorougly. Get a body shop to look it over very thoroughly. Get ******* the Honda dealer to do the same. Can never be to cautious with used cars. I went through all that stuff.

if you wanted to AutoX, why not something much-MUCH lighter like a 92-95 civic? Super cheap and plenty of super cheap mods availible....
