Koni Yellows.... EP3
Does anyone know of a release date for Koni's EP lineup? What about any other companies? The only things I've seen so far are full coilovers and some type of adapter kits. I really don't feel like running stock shocks like a lot of people here and on ephatch.com are. Any info would be appreciated.
George, I know you must have something to tell me about this.

koni already makes rear shocks for the ep3. for the front, the koni inserts require destroying the stock struts to accomodate the koni inserts.
that is the main reason why i'm staying away from koni for now. I'm sure someone will make a replacement strut for the front suspension so that modifying the stock strut isn't necessary.
either that or coilovers.

Tein is about to come out with their BASICS line. On their site it only says $950 USD. Not bad at all.

i believe tein already came out with their crazy electronic controlled suspension for the EP. options has it already listed and i believe jdmhondaparts has it on their car
Uh oh.
Does anybody know about the Koni Yellow that are currently shipping as '02-'04 "CTR" struts?
I'm assuming that since they were listed with a separate part number form the 7 Gen Civic that Koni is making struts specifically for the EP3.
I hope I'm right...can anybody confirm this?
I broke a Mugen/Showa strut and nobody can tell me how to buy just the front struts instead of all four coilover strut/spring combinations, so I'm getting Koni to try out.

8641-1416 <-That's the part number that people seemed to be having trouble with.
Maybe I've lucked out. The part number for the struts I've ordered are 8610-1415(Sport) and the description shows as "Koni Adjustable Yellow Shock for 01-03 Civic EP3 Type R (Front)."

it depends if the ep3 you have has the bigger strut housing....around the middle of 02-03 and on, they (honda) changed the strut for the bigger one like the type s...did you measure the outside diameter of the strut housing to make sure you ordered the right koni insert?

Nobody ever asked about that. I assumed it was a whole strut, minus spring. If it's an insert, I'm not sure I even want them.
I might be OK, because I have a Mugen strut currently installed, and I still have the old strut that came off the car.

yeah, that's all koni makes for the dc5s and ep3's. I sent you back a pm

Wow, this statement really worries me. I just purchased a set from King and installed them, how is it that you broke this strut? Isn't there some sort of warranty for this product?

guys, a great fallback on imported products under warranty(if they have no repair/ performance shop connected here from overseas) is... more likely the shop you bought it from, might have to contact them overseas.
just like my situation with D2. it took them 2 weeks just for 1 question(eventhough they did just start supplying stateside). now that i have the "go" signal, my car's back with me.

It's really not a warranty problem.
It looks like pothole damage. The right front strut's shaft looks like it was slightly bent, and as the months went by it slowly wore against the seals inside the damper until it went bad. This past winter in NoVA was kind of bad for road repairs.
I do have an email from King Motorsports asking me about whether I wanted to warranty it. However, after looking at the strut, it's just not fair to call it a warranty issue.
They had to write Mugen to ask how to buy one or two struts instead of four, and it has been a while since then, so I'm assuming the worst and looking for alternatives.
There is no fault in King Motorsports here. There's every sign that they would've taken care of it if the damper had failed without help.

No worries then, I understand.
