cranksshaft bearings?
how hard is it to change crankshaft bearings on a ls motor already in a car? i know it will have to be taken out, but how much work is involved?is it worth fixing or just get another block? any answers would be appreciated.
alot of work but if you are doing the labor its definatley worth it to keep the engine.
if you are having it done at a shop a longblock might be cheaper.

It's possible but I wouldn't recommend it... It's just a lot more work... In order to drop the crank you'll need to pull off the tranny, etc. which is just more of a pain in the ***.... The "normal" way is to pull the motor, take off the tranny... flip the motor over.... Drop the pistons (you can get away without doing so) and take out the crank... Besides that there isn't a whole lot to it... Peace
i bought a used ls block with benson sleeves, arias 9:1 pistons, eagle rods, micropolished crank, balanced and blueprinted. after installation it turns out it has crank bearings that need to be replaced. now i am not sure if i will be able to get my money back, so i was just wondering if it was worth changing them or not. or just sell the block as is and get another.
It can be done while in the car.
You will need to press them out and press them in.
Make sure the slots get lined up properly.
I dont advise it, but if you are doing a roadside rebuild, it can be done.

What exactly has to be pressed in and out?? I am planning on doing a piston swap in my garage without pulling the motor. I am just planning on replacing the rod bearings, using the stock rods and putting in Jdm Itr pistons. BTW the motor is a Jdm B18c. The motor only has about 50k on it, i believe the rest of the components i.e crank bearings will be alright for the new pistons. Any insight to this intall would be appreciated

Coming back to this post I really don't know exactly what psi420 is talkin about pressing out... Maybe the wristpins but not anything to do with bearings... As for you likaciv sounds like you're pretty much set... The real reason I hate rebuilding motors while they are in your car is you can't go overbore which I ALWAYS do... I actually won't rebuild motors without being overbored... It's just nice knowing that you have brand new clean cylinder walls to work with... Are you even honing your block?? At minimum I would recommend that... Good Luck and let us know if you need anything else... Peace
You guys stupid?

CAN CRANK BEARINGS BE CHANGED WHILE MOTOR IS STILL IN CAR?
And I assumed he meant he didnt want to drop the crankshaft.
Yes, the bearings can be changed. Pressing with your fingers.
