Default can a v tec go bad?- bad selonoid

if your vtec isnt kicking in, i was told it could be a bad selonoid? how do you check to see if a selonoid is bad? sorry im a rookie... oh and where is the vtec oil resevoir located? thank you jeff

2000 Si? I dont think your VTEC solenoid is the problem - but yes they can go bad, but heck thats pretty uncommon on even older motors let alone something so new. Id check all your other sensors first. I dont know though - im not a mechanic, but I play on on H-T!

It COULD be something as simple as low oil...your vtec is engaged by oil pressure! Check your oil and look for any weird oil leaks. That would be my first check point...I don't know from there...

if your oil level is fine , check to see if the solenoid is not clogged.
unbolt it by removing the 3 bolts and then look at the screen/mesh, make sure its clean.

Dude he's only got 2 posts... so he couldn't have posted it more than twice. The guy has to learn somehow

But yes,
1) check your oil,
2) make sure the car is warming up properly, i.e. correct coolant mixture,
3) do you have a check engine light on? if so, a good amount of the time that'll disable your vtec.
4) after all that and it still doesn't work, take it to Honda like Kamin said.
