I went to install the shift linkage today on my Eg / GSR hybrid and the damn thing is about half-way in. I used the old pin I took out the Cx since it looked exactly like the new GSR one I bought and was NOT mushroomed from when I beat it out with the socket extension.
Anyhow, it's a little f**ked (mushroomed) from where I tried to beat it in. I'm probably going to remove it in the morning and if you guys have any tips install the new pin afterwards.
It was a "bitch" getting it out, but getting it back in seems to be a "*****"
I'm just hoping someone has done this enough times and maybe has a trick you can share
Thanks!
PS <> Will I ever have to remove this thing? Yeah, I'm sure if I blow the motor or the tranny gets ruined I'll have to remove the shift linkage. But, I've read where people have pulled the motor with the shift linkage attached. Should I just beat the damn thing in if worst comes to worst?

OMG...i thought my friends and i were the only people that called it the "bitch pin."
only advice i can give ya is try and find a punch that is the right size. my dad happen to have one that was perfect.

Helms (or I read it somewhere) says an 8mm punch. I'm going to pick one up in the morning. Does this fit perfectly with the pin which will NOT mushroom the end?
I've got the 4lb hammer ready to go

Actually, I was asking if there are any tricks to put it back in.
I've already took it out when I removed the Cx motor. Need to put it in the GSR

Probably good advice there
I'm going to soak it from the top side and let it drip down good and get it all lubed then just pound that bitch in there with the sledge and an 8mm punch

damn i hate the bitch pin. it was the hardest part of my swap i could not get that **** out. but getting it in was pretty easy for me, i just held it by to of my fingers and carefully hit it with a hammer to were it would stay in the hole without me using my fingers then i got a piece of 2x4 and laid it flat on the pin and just beat it 2-3 times with a hammer went in like a charm.
When you do it enuff times... it even becomes easy with a phillips head...lol
An 8mm punch is what to use to make it simple... and you should be able to do it w/ a regular hammer, as long as the car is high enuff to get a decent back swing.
Step #1) Coat it lightly w/ some oil
Just get it wedged in and tap it with the broadside of the hammer.
You should only need the punch once it's 1/2 way in or more.
A trick ? Once wedged in, you can tap the edges of the pin to help it along, but you gotta be accurate.

ha ha, i cussed that damn thing until i threw it into the neighbor's yard. i ended up using a bolt and locknut w/loctite (red) that was the perfect diameter. i also pulled the engine with the linkage attached. it was a *****. i had to jack the front of the car up like 2 ft, then pull out the engine. i felt like such a dumbass. now all engines go in from underneath. 2 strong people can lift up the front of a honda without an engine in it. go get some
and good luck
and good luck
i stuck a fireplace poker(you know, the one with the pointy end and little curvinglip) down the top of my engine and hit it with a sledgehammer and it bent the **** out of the poker but still came out. Victory
Get underneath the car and use a phillips head to poke at the pin and use hammer to beat the **** out of the screwdriver. This was the most difficult part of my swap.

Here's how it sits as of now. I lubed it up with WD40 and hit it a few times with a sledge hammer and it did NOTHING!
I'll try again Saturday when I plan to finish the swap and fire the motor up.

Shouldn't be too hard installing a motor with the linkage attached.
FYI
I've done 3 swaps already and i never took the shifter linkage out. Take one of the linkages out, the easier one nad it will give you more slack. Also if you are doing a swap you can always put the motor under the car and put it up or when dropping it in you can still clear the engine bay with the shifter linkage as long as one of them is disconnected.

1/4" Punch Works Great!
Also Any 1/4" Bolt can work too If you want to go cheap!
Make sure you hold hand on back side, Being the PIN can Fly out on the last hit and you WIll NEVER FIND IT!!

Best way to put it in is to use a channel lock plier. As long as its big enough, you'll get good leverage to squeeze it in. If you can't picture it, I'll try and draw a pic. Let me know how it works out.
you can also use a 12mm bolt, like from a throttle body, and tap it in or out with one, fits perfect. When pounding it back in, make sure you have a thin screwdriver or something you can push thru the pin to make sure it is lined up before you start pounding away, sometimes the linkage will move a little and you think it's going in, but it's really just hitting next to the hole in the linkage...
here's a tip. make sure the holes line up
sounds stupid, but i did it
after teh first whack it moved, everyother wack just damaged the fit more
honda shoulda just stuck a fuggin bolt in there

use a punch tool that will be the same width of the pin.... or u can use the bolt that is used for hooking the header and cat-converter together.. it s the same size as the pin.
