Default Suspension *clunk* ?

I had a shock pop the other day - it was a wierd event, but I guess their time had come. Anyhow, now when I bump over a manhole cover on my way to class, a grueling mile away, I hear a very distinct clunk sound. So when I get to class I take a moment and look but it looks like all the obvious things are ok - not a broken spring, sway bar brushings are fine, just a dead shock.

The wierd thing happens when I drive back from class and run over the same manhole cover but hit the brakes because someone is coming out - no clunk sound. So I kept trying this - and it happens every time I bump over something.

I'm putting in some new shocks and springs in a couple days once UPS shows up - but is there anything I should be looking to fix while I'm putting in all my new shocks and springs?

First off... how low is your car rightr now? What kind of springs? the problem i had with my cb7 was that my it was too low and the control arm had no room and the shocks would bottom out and the control arm would hit the top of the inner fender wall... so i ended getting sport springs instead and its fine now... thats the only thing i can think of trhat would make a clunk noise.

Actually, the car is at stock height, but maybe the arm is still hitting because of the dead shock. I'm putting on springs that will drop it an inch and a half. A friend of mine said that it could be that the spring had come unseated. I guess it isn't a big deal as I plan on taking everything apart and adding tokico blues and some H&Rs. Thanks for the help.

I'd check the sway bar bolts on the endlinks. If they're loose, they can produce a "clunking" sound.
