98 LS motor value??? LOW MILES!!
i have a 98 ls motor with auto tranny what do you think i could get out of it. both are in perfect shape! no slip in the tranny and the motor is clean enough to eat off of. it currently has 48,096 miles. everything is in perfect condition! i want to do a tranny swap and friends of mine think that id be better off selling my motor and finding an ls with a 5sp combo?!?! im not quite sure what to think yet advice please? any help will be appriciated!...TIA ghost
I'm guessing w/ an auto tranny it's probably worth around 2k....maybe more, maybe less. It all depends on who you can sell it to and what they want. I know someone getting a 98 LS engine w/ 56K miles on it, with no tranny, for 1500.
You might want to look into selling yours and swapping in a B18C1 w/ manual or an H22A w/ manual tranny. You will like it so much better and it will only cost you a grand or so difference, if that

see the thing is i want to go with the ls because of future plans to boost. also i have heard that the ls motor makes less hp stock than the b18c1 but will handle boost much better!?!? is this true!
The only reason why it would handle boost better is because it has lower compression ratio. 9.2 vs 10.0 I think the GSR is. Other than that, the GSR is stronger with oil squirters and a girdle on the main caps. Why don't you just keep your motor and put in a 5 spd tranny? You know your motor has been taken care of so you aren't getting buying some mystery engine that may burn tons of oil. You'll probably have to change the wiring harness or at least a few wires but the engine itself is the same (the auto may have a little different cams, but thats all I think).
