Default finally got my recaro SRD installed!

this seat rocks. extremely supportive, durable, blah blah . . . i love it!

it kind of dwarfs the stock seat . . .

here's the JDM OE rails . . . pretty high, feels higher than the stock seat.

oh yeah, the JDM OE rails sit the seat a tiny bit to the right, which puts it a little close to the center console . . .

it's amazing how well the seat holds you. in fact, when driving, you can basically forget about flying all over the interior and concentrate on the driving ( ), and it really makes you more in tune with what the car is doing.

so, overall, it was a GREAT purchase, and a big to david @ r+d motorsports, for being so patient!

oh, and my GF's first comment after i installed it: "where's mine?!?!"

I guess that means you're going to make everyone ask David @ R&D Motorsports themselves, eh?

Peter,
Thank you for your patience. I guess there should be a disclaimer on all JDM orders REQUIRING it...as for the pricing question, I cant remember what you get the seat for. I will check monday unless you remember and want to post it. I dont mind. Time to go change a diaper...no, not mine.

Ok NOW, I realy want EM'!

And thats a PAIR of Red ones for my NBP R!

Yup I think? I gotta have em. Can you tell us what else if anything you needed to do the install; "JDM RAILS,BOLTS, Whatever else and confirm the things I listed plese."

And I see your friend says it's alright to quote the price! So, If you would please list the $ for the SRD Recaros "are they JDM or USDM?" I'm forever wishing my seats were more supportive whilst taking tight turns...

Thanks and happy driving.

A.

Few things:

What is the weight difference vs the stock seat.

Also, sitting higher *sucks*. Are there any rails that would allow the SRD to sit lower? My helmet hits as it is now. Looks like I won't be getting SRDs if there is no way to make them sit properly.

You can get the "Vision" brand seat rails...they make the seats sit the lowest out of all the ones out there AFAIK.

1GreyTeg, the seat came with the JDM OE brackets, minus the bolts - you can use the bolts from the stock seat, they're exactly the same. the seat isn't 'JDM'; the SRD is the US 'version' of the JDM and german SRIII (which is slightly different, i hear). get a pair of red ones for your NBP!

Todd00, the seat sits slightly higher - the main thing is that it squeezes your legs together, causing you to raise the steering wheel a bit. vision makes 2 sets of rails for this seat, the 'low' and 'super-low'. the low is probably 1" below stock and the super-low is about 1.5" below stock - on the floor, basically. right now, it feels pretty good, but i will probably get the vision rails later on. i'm 6'1", and my head is about 1.5" from the roof when nearly fully upright. get one, you won't be disappointed.

to answer the weight question, they actually feel about the same - i didn't weigh them, but when maneuvering them in and out of the car, the SRD was actually easier to move and position, making appear 'lighter', but who knows.

and the answer to the $64 question: $760 was the final cost, including shipping, from david @ http://www.randdmotorsports.com. MUCH cheaper than spending $2K on ONE JDM recaro! (hell, you can get 2 SRDs for that prices and still have money left over for a set of vision rails, and then some!)

Very nice. Is there anyway to keep them from sitting higher than the stock seats. I've got just enough headroom now to keep my helmet off the room. I want the JDM Recaros, but going up is not good.

When Peter approached me with his order for the seat, I did some research and was told that the JDM rails sit the seat lower than if you went with the ones from Recaro (wedge?). I guess they let you remain at or near the OEM height. The Visions would be the way to go, but are HARD to source, eventhough we carry the line. No kidding. You just gotta love all of these Japanese lines. I am surprised I still have all my hair! There are more seats coming in mid July, both Red and Black.

The rails may be the same height but the additional height may be from the heavily padded seat. SRD's have a very thick seat bottom.

I've had both sets of rails. The first one had the Wedge brackets/Recaro Slider Set A which I had to modified to drop the height. It was higher than the SRD/JDM OE rail combo. Compairing the two, the OEM rails sit you more centered with the steering wheel, meaning the Wedge setup puts you more lateral(closer to the door). Using the OEM Rails causes the seat belt buckle to rub against the center console. You can alieviate this by getting the JDM non-armrest console. The OEM rail seat adjust is of sturdier design. The seat locks firmly in place yet still slides as smoothly as stock, The Recaro Slider uses a flimsy bar that bends upward every time you adjust. It also feels rough and notchy as you slide. Hope this helps.

yeah, the JDM center console is on order. i had to remove the inside seat recline adjustment ****, as the USDM console is in it's way.

the JDM OE brackets are extremely well made, as you mentioned (i was admiring the locking mechanism on both sliders before i installed them). i'm very impressed, but i do need it to be a bit lower.

all in all, though, i'm very happy. i don't have too much of a problem with the seatbelt, um, 'clicker' () rubbing against the console. it's just snug.

oh, and ITR#231, i may just end up buying another SRD from david for the passenger side . . . everytime my GF gets in the car she looks at my seat and sighs . . .

it's just so hard to justify $750 on a seat i'll never sit in, ya know?
