sorry guys but how reliable is the 93 civic compared to a 97?
The archives are down. I'm looking for a car to drive around 60 miles/day for work. Is the 5th gen less reliable than the 6th gen? I heard the electrical and oil burning problems start at around 150k miles for the 5th gen. Need owner data pls.

I have a 95 5th gen with 192k miles, no electrical problems yet. Might burn 1/4 quart of oil, if that, between oil changes (every 3k miles).
I think most problems like that that pop up are a function of how many miles the car has, to some extent, but also how well the previous owner maintained the car, to a much larger extent.
With poor maintenance, a car with even 60k can be a sad story compared to a well maintained 100k car. Just my $0.02 worth.

if you are not planning on a swap and want a good reliable daily driver then get the 97, it will be built more solid, heat/air work better ect.... but i love the 5th gens
