What is normal operating water temperature?
Is it 180deg? A buddy of mine is having problems with his guage going up and is going to install an aftermarket temp guage that he has laying around to see how hot the water is getting.
The car is bone stock 92 Lx.

Hotter? The temperature is sometimes stamped on the thermostat, in Celsius.
90C = 194F ...but I'm not sure if that's the right temperature for a stock '92.

I also thinking around 190's also.
160 thermostat is not bad... just will start to flow coolant earlier, not a bad thing... been done for many years, on many different cars.

It is really NOT advisable to use a thermostat with a lower temperature. The computer takes into account all the values it receives to make the car run properly. Adjusting the temperature ... by the use of a lower degree thermostat ... would not ... in my opinion ... be a wise decision.
Why do you want to run a colder one? If everything is working as it should ... you should NOT have any problems with the recommended one. If you are having a heat problem ... I personally would search out the problem. Do not try to solve it by putting a colder thermostat in the engine.

According to my '98 Teg Helms, the thermostat starts to open from 169-176 and is wide open at 196. That should be pretty close to the Accord.

Thanks for all the replies. As for why I asked the question. I saw a thermostat that said it was the stock replacement, 160 degree. It sounded a bit low to me but I just wanted to ask and see what you guys think. So you answered my question, thanks.
oh yeah, I looked at the one currently in the motor now and it has 78 deg C stamped on it. That would be 172.4 deg F. Does this mean I have a 172.4 deg F thermostat?
