RANT about aluminum wings (not quite what you think)!
OK children, I'm sick and ******* tired of you meatheads calling aluminum wings rice!
Let me clue you in, ********, on where aluminum wings come from. They come from REAL race cars. I'm not talking about your EX coupe with exhaust kind of race car. Oh no... I'm talking about a real, honest- to- god, $500,000+ JGTC car. I'm talking about a $1,000,000+ LeMans car. Oh yeah. REAL race cars. See, these guys know what the **** is going on, and aluminum wings ******* rock, mmkay? They're light, cheap, durable as all hell, and work like a ************.
Now, some say that aerodynamics doesn't come into play 'till around 120 MPH. I strongly disagree. Around 40 MPH is where you'll see benefits from aerodynamics.
The same people argue that rear wings don't belong on FWD cars because the driving wheels are up front. BZZZ!!!
! It makes NO difference where the driving wheels are, because aerodynamics are there to balance the handling of a car, and yes, assist in traction, but to a lesser degree.
I'm so ******* tired of you people calling a Civic with a body kit and aluminum wing rice, but blow a ******* load over a 240SX with the same equipment, or a full- blown race car with the same wing the Civic has.
Point: Aluminum wings ARE functional race car parts and will benefit the handling of ANY car they're on.
Prove me wrong. I dare ya.

my room mate is getting a C-West aluminum wing on his ITR....I think they're dope if they're done right. Same thing goes for duckbills and amber corners, etc
people are ignorant

I don't care if people say they're ugly or pretty or that their mom looks hotter... I have a problem with ignorant cocksockets that say that aluminum wings are pointless (ie- rice).
they're fully functional...but there is a difference between a GT touring wing on a race car compared to a 35 dollar Arospeed one.
Kind of like comparing real body kits to fake ones....they may look the same, but not both are on the same level as far as function goes.

i truly agree with u.
the ricer cars with the aluminum wing get them not for their function or stability but they it cause they think its cool but hey more power 2 them.

i agree with you when aluminum wings do have a function, but most of the ricers you see out there put those wings on for the wrong purpose. they either put it on cuz they think it looks cool, or think other people think it looks cool. hello?!?!! i thought wings were suppose to give you downforce, not props.
wow, great insight.
if a le mans car has an aluminum wing, it must be ok for a street civic to have an aluminum wing, even though the two cars don't have anything in common besides the fact that they have 4 wheels!

My POINT is that aluminum wings ARE NOT (again- are not) rice. They're hardcore race car parts. They will benefit the handling of ANY car they go on, even a minivan.
Looks like people pointed and laughed at this guys civic with a two story wing, one two many times.
When civics starting running race car times on the streets, maybe your arguement will have more merit. As for right now, its nothing more then bleacher seating on mostly 16+sec cars.
wow, great insight.

I think his point was that a large portion of people who put those on civics do it for the look. Most probably dont drive the car enough to ever feel the benefits of downforce.

those wings you see on Le Mans took countless hours in a wind tunnel and a **** load of many to make. now, can you go ahead and tell me that APC or FOCUZ does the same thing in making their aluminum wings?
Putting a huge aluminum wing on your civic nets you nothing except props from other ricers. When you can show me time, figures, windtunnel testing, etc. that proves to me that an APC touring wing on your mom's EX civic sedan does something useful, I may change my mind.
Either way, they still look gay.

I believe everyone on this board understands that.... I guess it's kinda like the drag racers putting duckbills on their cars

Aluminum wings ARE pointless on a car that spends most of it's time parked on carpet.
You think any of these guys give a **** about real racing?

yeah, everyone except loco honkey. like i said, just because they are on RWD, 700 horsepower le mans cars, does not mean a 100 horsepower FWD civic will benefit from the extra weight on the back of the car. prove it doesn't benefit the car? im not the one who started this topic. why don't you prove to us, that if i were to put an aluminum wing on my car right now, it would benefit me.

The point of this post is to show easily the Honda-Tech lemmings can be swayed to believe what they read on the internet. MTK Kommander accomplished the same thing with his rants on CF, I don't see why it wouldn't work with this argument.

I can tell you from personal experience that a wing helps out performance. I have one on my civic and have taken it off numerous occasions. There was a difference in handling when I took it off and it wasn't for the better. On a daily basis I drive between 50-100 miles a day and I average 75 mph on roads that are not exactly straight. Most people use them to look cool or whatever but there are benefits to them.
