Track day is coming up and need help!
I still have the original break pads. They still look really thick. I would say between 65-70% comparing to the new pads. Should I replace them to get ready for the track day? They have endured 2 seasons of autox and 1 track event.
If I do need to replace them, which are the best for the OEM rotors? OEM pads or after market pads? and which kinds.
THanks.

I've used stock pads in the past. It was my first time on the track and probably didn't really abuse the brakes much. But they did slow me in time for each corner. I'll prbably be running the same stock pads again next week.
We'll see if I can get some Axxis pads and the rotars turned before than.

Good fluid (i.e. Motul 5.1) is more important than "break" (sic) pads. Change out your fluid. As long as you have more than 50% pads you should be fine - but leave yourself enough brake pad material to get home safely. Also consider bringing an extra set of pads with you.
I haven't been able to get more than one track day out of OEM pads - they just don't last in the heat.

yeah I noticed that by the end of the day when I was getting more confidant, I really had to push on that pedal to get it to slow down. Scared myself (and probably the instructor) on that last right turn before the front straight @ thunderhill. Always managed to find a bit more brakes though.
Is there any downside to using upgraded brake fluid? Does it last as long between changes?

can't speak from experience but I can tell you that I am getting a set of Axxis Ultimates. I have heard that they are easy on the rotars and stop well. A good street and track pad. Hopefully I'll get them before next friday
