hydrate or die - my in car water bottle
I was looking at trying to stay hydrated while racing. I wear a Camel back when I snowboard and thought that would be a good idea. After some contemplation I came up with a solution. I used the water bottle cage from my mountain bike (that I don't use) and I mounted it upside down on the roll cage. I then took a water bottle and modified it to fit the drinking tube. I found the drinking tube at a spoting goods store. There are usually extension or replacements you can buy instead of buying a whole Camelback. A tie wrap helps hold the bottle in place while racing.
I found that when you are busy racing you will not drink, but once that checkered flies, the water is there. You do not have to wait until you get back to your pit. It is also handy while sitting on the pre grid.

hrm...i'm curious as to how effective it is
because the bottle is pretty rigid...so sucking on the tube would create a vaccum
i think the camelback bladders would be more effective since the bladder is nice an ducticle.
I personally already have a camelback...so i'd just use that...plus its insulated so it would keep the water cooler.

GENIUS!
Orange Gatorade is nice too.

A vent hole would probably help. For that matter, it would help if you could get the bottle above your mouth. I can't tell if that's possible without blocking your vision.

A buddy of mine uses a high quality zip lock bag. He fills it with ice and crams it down his suit to keep his body cool. Then, after the race, he drinks the melted water. I'm not kidding.

I got a 1/2 gallon plastic thermos jug and hose clamped it to the cage at the b-pillar foot behind my seat. I then ran a hose up the cage and taped it to my shoulder harness. It took a few good pulls on the straw to get the ice water up but once it was flowing it was no problem. Before I would spit out the house I would blow back down the hose to clear it. I never had a problem with siphoning or even spilling and the whole deal cost me about $8.
Note that this was taken AFTER the car hit a tree so ignore the fact that the jug is crooked and **** - that is only because the whole car was crooked. You get the idea of how it was set up.

Camelback + Gatorade = me much happier toward end of race
It's great for those hot and humid days we experience here in the Mid-West during the summer.

That was stupid.
I race better when I'm shitfaced and puking all over my Recaro SPG.

Cameback sells a bite valve. Water will not get out unless you bite it.
Go to a Sporting Goods store to check it out. They also have a 90 degree elbow that makes drinking easier than fuckign with a long hose...

Just a thought, but you guys might want to try something similar to this:

A bit more money, but probably more durable than a Ziploc. Perhaps a bit easier to affix a tube to also?
