hey everyone. im in a bit of a bind here. ever since i picked up my car a couple of
months ago, it would blow alot of smoke when i hit the throttle after it warms up. and if i rev the engine while im parked it would shoot out smoke for a while even if its back at idle.
i havent really cleaned the engine bay yet to find out where the leak is coming from. what i do tho is wipe the engine stamp (D16Z6 btw) and after a short drive i look back at the stamp and its covered back in oil. and also i looked under the car a i see 4 different spots of oil leaking onto the ground.
right now im thinking that its only a headgasket. but fearing it could be more than that. if anyone knows what it might be please reply. all thanks in advance

You can get the STR cam seal for $25 or so and the valve cover gasket is pretty cheap as well. Both are easily fixable and don't require any major mechanics skills. As for the smoke, it could be plenty of things. Your rings could be going bad, could be valves, etc. What color smoke?
Have you checked your radiator fluid level. Also open up your overflow and see if any oil is in there. Oil mixed with radiator fluid=blown headgasket. Lack of fluid and overheating + fluid in exhaust = cracked sleeve. Is the car overheating at all?

white smoke= water. so i think the head gasket is shot, check the radiator for air bubbles and oil, also you should do a compression check just to make sure the rings are ok.
you just need to break down and get a headgasket set which will include all the gaskets from the head gasket up and replace them all.
also please pick up a service manuel for your car, they are the bible for your car and once you pick one up you will never put it down.

yea i check my fluid every few days. its still pretty full...and the overflow was pretty clean. no traces of oil in there.
and i can't really tell if im overheating or not because the water temp gauge isnt working.
i can just go to the dealer and have them compression test the engine for me right? will they charge me anything? and what numbers should the engine shoot for?
