soild rear axle
i sometimes read about older hondas having solid rear axles and i am wondering what exactly it is. comming knowledge that a solid rear axle is just how it is said, "a solid rear axle". can anyone tell me how this setup is and how it is diffrent fron a car that doesnt have a solir rear axle? also what years/models did this come in with older hondas?
'84-'87 Civics and CRXs has a nearly solid rear axle, with a pivot on the right hand side. Therefore the rear axle was only somewhat independent. '84 CRX 1.3s and '85-'87 CRX HFs had no pivot on the right, and the long axle tube was smaller (and lighter). I presume the same can be said for '84-'87 Civic 4-speed models, but I am not sure of that.
A car with an independent rear axle is said to have less impact on one side when a tire hits a bump on the other side.

The axle is a solid beam, located on each end by the trailing arms. A panhard bar keeps it located (sort of) for lateral loads. An integrated swaybar limits the amount of compression the right side is capable of.
