Default Trouble Code: 1259 help!

So i recently set off a check engine light. I diagnosed it w/ my friends computer thing that plugs into the ecu or something. Anyways, it said that i was setting off trouble code 1259. So i looked in my chilton's manual and it translate the code to be a "vtec system malfuntion" or something like that. Now i've reset my ecu enough times to realize that i only set off the code when im cruising above 5000rpms (i.e. cruising in 5th at 90+ or when i down shift about to race someone). I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about this trouble code or have had similar experiences.

BTW, i have an ej Si w/ some bolt on's, jrsc, and a vafc....
Thanks

ChuTHIS,

Did you find out any more information on this topic ... my brother's '95 Integra GS-R just had the same code pop up, and I'm trying to find out some info!

Regards,
Trevor

Does your Chilton's manual have the procedure to check each component in the VTEC system? I had a code for the EVAP control system leakage, but there were still a bunch of components to test, along with wiring to each one. The code just narrows it down to a few components, hardly ever tells you which ONE.

Could be the VTEC solenoid, the VTEC oil pressure switch, wiring, or even low oil pressure...

RareSI, You are the man! Thanks for all the information. Seriously, i really do appreciate it.

on a side note, do you think it could be a setting on my VAFC that set the code off?

The first thing I check when I see this code is the oil level.

The next thing I would check is the VTEC presure switch/circuit. And if all that checked good, the solenoid/circuit would be next.

I normally don't post in "Tech"..but my friend had a 1st gen b16 in his CRX, with a JRSC for a 99-00 SI on it. The shop that installed the JRSC on the motor (my friend blew his up so went for a new motor and charger) didn't know much about honda's I'm guessing because all of his vaccum lines were hooked up wrong and because he was getting similar codes. He still could only get Vtec on occassion since the IAT's were so high. I'm not sure about this but certain things must be present for vtec to kick in..IE A certain temperature (Theres a range), oil pressure, and maybe a few other things.

I'm guessing it's your high IAT's..try a CAI for a day drive the car around like you usually do..and see if it throws the same codes. Make sure to reset your ecu prior to doing the test.

ok i had my car run on my mechanics honda computer code puller thing. and it was reading my engine temp at 194 it was reading my speed and when we went for a ride it was sayin that vtec was kicking in. But yet the rev limiter still kicks in at 6400 rpms. i didn't do the wire to the vtec selonoid yet tho. but the ecu says it's kickin in.....??? i guess it's swap out an ecu with someone elses ecu or could it be something else?

bump.

ok so i checked the wiring to see if 12 volts r goign to it. at first i just tested it reving it. but then i realised vtec won't set off unless i am goign 20 mph or more so i jack the front of my car up safely and went through 1st and 2nd, revved it up to 5500-6000 in 2nd and 12 volt came through, so i know it's sending the volts to the selonoid. what else could i check?

Does the solenoid click when you apply 12 volts to it?

Sounds like the electrical portion of your VTEC system is in good working order. (thats the good news) Now we need to figure out why the oil presure isn't getting to the rockers:

Is the engines oil presure within spec? Is the screen under the solenoid clogged up? Has anyone ever had the head "apart"?
