transmission axle oil seal - good info
my problem was, oil was leaking out of my brand new axle oil seal on my new si tranny. according to honda the same oil seal is used on all the l3 trannies, so i thought the seal had somehow been damaged. took it my mechanic, and it turns out that honda has made like 5 different seals for each side, and if you use the wrong one, you get massive oil leaks. next time i do this i'm gonna take it to my mechanic again and just have them match the correct seal to it. just fyi for anyone rebuilding one of these.
I recently went through that BS as well. I swapped in a used SI trans and put new seals on it.....they didnt seal....so I dug through my garbage to find the old seals, brought them to the shop and matched them up. Now it's fine. Your best bet is to bring to old seals to the store to guarantee you are going home with the correct seals.
my guy took the car out for a long drive, so i feel pretty good about them being the right ones. i just can't believe the bullsh!t that honda put me through. dude, jump on hondaautomotiveparts.com and look up those seals, they have the same part number. i'm really thinking of calling them up and asking them to pay for the repair, not to mention i accidently drove my new tranny with low fluid.
