Default OMFG!! problem! PLEASE HELP!!

was on the freeway in 4th redline, threw it into 5th and it didnt feel right. when i let up the clutch pedal all of a sudden my car reved to 10 grand for maybe 1 second b4 i pushed in the clutch to bring the rpms down. once i got to a lower speed i put it into 5th smoothly and it was fine. i contined to drive home

when i went to turn off the freeway my car died when i came to a stop. then i started it again and it was gurgling really bad like GLUG GLUG GLUG GLUG and wants to die when i leave it at idle. it sputters through the low rpms but then gets okay in the mids when driving.

timing? rod or crank bearing? valve bent? HELP

im going to check my spark plugs and oil as soon as i post this

my car is a 2000 Si with b20vtec hybrid, stock ecu, fuel press regulator, shaved head forty thousanths

were you powershifting? or did the motor keep accelerating even after you let off the gas?

i hadnt pushed the gas that far in yet.

what it felt like to me was the car went into the wrong gear (possibly 3rd) and just ****** zinged itself when i let the clutch out. but only it was in the FIFTH gear slot.

like i said though. the shifter didnt feel right, it kind of ground when i ushed it into gear

muhaha.. thats what you did I bet.. misshifted. thats the only thing that would make an engine rev up to 10G's with a stock ecu.

I mean, n2o will do it, but.. you didnt say anything about that.

Damn.. hmm.. so what could it be?

Id be looking at the head part of it.. the bottom end should be ok unless your hearing clanks and ****.. like.. rotational noises.. but from your description, itt sounds like its just bogging .. ? is this correct?

Do you hear any clanking? I mean seriously, if you broke a valve / bent or if the bottom end is failing.. you would hear a rotational clanking noise.. not just a putter...

If you have an lsvtec.. who did the work? Have them check it out. I wouldnt tell them about the 10K RPM part tho lol

i think on the newer ecu's they can call up history reports or whatever, it will show the revs were at 10k... i know they can do that on the celica at least.
i defintaley think you misshifted, thats why you heard it grind into what you thought was 5th... good luck, it wont be that bad.

Sounds like when I bent my valves, except I misshifted from 3rd to 2nd instead of 3rd to 4th. At low rpm's my car could BARELY keep an idle, but once you got it up in higher rpms it felt a little bit better, but you could still tell it was struggling. I pulled the head off and i found that cylinder #3 exhaust valves were very slightly bent, but enough to lose compression. I would suggest doing a compression test on your motor to see which cylinder lost compression and make sure that is the problem before you move any further.

My question is: how would you bend a valve?

Is it due to the fact that the rocker arms have a hard time following the cam lobe profile at such high RPMs as 10k?

Let us know how this happens

That was my first thought. I did the same thing when I just started learning to drive stick, felt like a total ***, but the thing is still running good. (I didn't rev it to 10k either though)

I was racing this dude once in a 97 prelude and he mis-shifted into first instead of 3rd.

God that was horrific. The front end of that car dove down like an airplane.
