APexi Vafc on a non vtec ecu??? MINI ME
Is it possible to use the vafc without having the vtec ecu? The reason I ask is becuase I did a mini me swap and I do not have any way to activate vtec at the moment. I was going to try using a rpm switch but that didnt turn out so good. Does anyone have any information on how I would get this to work?
yes, you can use a VAFC with a non VTEC ECU. you'll just end up not setting vtec and only tuning the fuel. but it'd be better off if you just got a SACF, unless your'e planning on having a vtec ecu to hook the VAFC up to. but yes, you can use a VAFC with a non vtec ECU simply by not hooking up the vtec wire/line. and you jsut tune your air/fuel ratio
But my question is... can you activate the vtec with out using a vtec ecu?? I want to run my stock LX ecu and use the vafc to activate vtec and control air/fuel.... will this still work without the vtec ecu?
i wonder thet too. if you have one already then hook up all the wires that go to the ecu to the ecu, except for the vtec solenoid and vtec pressure wires hook them up directly to the solenoid and sensor. if it doesnt work that way anr you cant get it to work at all then sell the vafc and buy a p28. they go for cheap. just make sure it isnt "chipped".

yes you can use a VAFC on a non vtec motor/ecu. you can use it to activate vtec while running a non-vtec ecu as well.
what's wrong with chipped ECUs???

On the apexi webpage they only show one port for the vtec signal. Am I supposed to use the vtec signal wire to the vtec solenoid? What do I use to connect to the vtec pressure sensor?
Dont hook up the vtec input on the vafc, just hook the vtec output up to vtec solenoid. Dont worry about the vtec oil pressure sensor. Im running a d16z6 on a p06 ecu and it seems to work fine this way.

I dont really understand what u mean. Do you have pictures or websites that tell about this info? I would hook up the wires I would normally hook up except the vtec right? Which wire do I hook up from the vtec to the vafc?
omahaturbocivic (6:21 PM 4/8/2003): I dont remember the colors, but just hook up everything the way the instructions say. Just run the vtec output wire from the vafc right to the vtec solenoid. The vtec input (which would normally be hooked up to the ecu on a vtec ecu) just leave unhooked (it just keeps a vtec ecu from throwing a cel). Dont worry about the vtec oil pressure sensor because your non vtec ecu does not know its there anyways.

wouldnt the vafc be controlling the vtec not the ecu? I'm not going to spend another $100 or more on an ecu. I also read on the net that it will work but there was no detailed information. Can anyone back this up? Can I do what omahaturbocivic says?
The ecu does not activate vtec, the vafc will. You just set what rpm you want vtec at and it will activate it. It does not really matter if the ecu is a vtec one or not because the vafc overides the signal anyways.
