t-belt trouble? 93 accord
I just took off the upper half of the t-belt cover on my way to replace the water pump. But I noticed that the t-belt is loose on one side of the cam pulley and tight on the other. Tell me this is normal! Okay, now tell me the truth. I'm guessing my water pump might be the least of my worries. The motor still runs though it's making some bad sounds. I couldn't get the lower half of the t-belt cover off because the crank pulley appears to need a special tool is that correct? I'd appreciate any help I can get. This is my first time to work on a Honda. Thanks
yeah the timing belts strech (especially the aftermarket ones) so they may be loose on one side to get the crank pully off get a air gun and go at it it may take a while but you will get it off......if your doing the timing belt then i hope you mean your doing the water pump too i am not sure what you meant in that statement good luck...
Thanks for the info. Re: the water pump I have antifreeze coming out of the bottom of the t-belt cover as fast as I can pour it in. Also the engine is making some pretty bad noises. I'm hoping the noise is just the w/pump. Do you know if these engines have interference heads? Thanks again for the help.
there is a really good thread entitled "how do I get the crank pully bolt off" in the archives, but archive searching is currently disabled
maybe somebody has it linked or bookmarked or something.
there should be some slack in the timing belt on the water pump side, but not a lot, so it's hard to say if it's a problem or not.
definately replace the tensioner spring when you do it.
there is a special tool for holdng the crank in place while you turn the bolt, but you can just put a screwdriver in the flywheel instead.
they are interferance engines. a compression test will tell you if you bent a valve or worse.

Really like your Mark Twain quote. He nust have been a real character to be around.
It's my sons car and he's leaning toward just replacing the whole engine. The trottle angle gizmo needs to be replaced and nobody around here has one except the dealer. The dealer says it's part of the throttle body and the throttle body costs $500+. The local junk yards have them but won't sell them separate from the engines. The engine He's thinking of replacing it w/ is a jap. import w/ 35000 miles on it.
I'm thinking of rebuilding his engine existing engine. Where would I go to get a rebuild kit?
Anybody know when the archive will be working again?
Thanks for all the help.
