Default advanced timing and other misc. questions

is there a cheaper way to advance the timing with out getting the timing light? also, are the gains from this mod significant enough to notice? while i have your attention, those who have the AEM CAI, how often do u clean the filter? If you guys are not sick by now, what tire pressure is good for track? daily driving? Oh, and lastly, i have 6000 miles on my R, is it ready for syn oil? hehe, 5w 30 or 10w 30? Thank you

You can move the distributer toward you about 1-2 cm and you have just adjuster your timing by almost 2-degrees.

But I would still use a timing light

I think he means 1-2 mm, not cm. You will notice the difference.

Just borrow a timing light off someone. It only take 5mins.
My timing was adjusted at my 1 year service, advanced 2.5 degrees.
My car is completely stock, I'll be changing my timing back to startard this weekend. This is why.......

It did make a couple of differences....
1) Fuel economy was better.
2) VTEC Engages smoother.

Like I said, My car is 100% stock, and these were the only differences it made. If you have some Mods, well it might be different. I don't really care about fuel economy and I miss the VTEC kick in the pants. So I'll be moving it back.
Later.

Strange. I felt a more pronounced VTEC kick with 18 deg timing. The engine revs faster but I don't know about the fuel economy.

What's the lowest octane premium fuel you can use with advanced timing?

The best we have here is 92 @ Amoco.

I realize that Boba. I only use Premium in both my cars. My prob is...what is the *minimum* octane needed for advanced timing?

I want to advance the hybrid 2 degrees. Just didn't know if 92 was good enough.

Thanks!
