Default S/C or turbo...on B16 or GSR??????????

Here goes, what would be better to put in my '90 civic SI for 1/4 E.T.'s..... a turbo or supercharged B16 or GSR engine.... if turbo, I would want a medium sized turbo.... if supercharged, it would be a jackson racing.... and how much would each set-up roughly cost.... and run in a 1/4 mile?? THANX!!

I dsont think that Jackson has made a supercharger kit for the CRX with a swap yet... Last time i heard they were still working on it, but then again i could be wrong... Anyhow, theres someone who has a vortech s/c with their b16 in a crx... but to answer your questions, with a mid sized turbo and a b16 a crx, with a good driven could hit a mid to high 13... dont quote me on that

...for simplicity I would go with a DOHC ZC and a junk yard turbo...
$600-800 for the ZC
$1000 junk yard turbo setup

as for 1320's...I'm guessing but low 14's.

jackson does not make an official kit for a b16 in a rex, however, the type R kit has been adapted by many people without a lot of work. this is going to be my setup. as far as cost, my swap costed $3000, and the jrsc kit will cost about $4000 total. keep in mind, i dont half-*** things like some people on this board, so the prices may be higher than those ghetto people. i've heard the results of this setup and it sounds very pleasing. i cant wait until its done. (it will be done within a month).

Hey keebler65, what type of work would be needed to adapt the s/c to the b16?

if you have the cash to supercharge or turbo anything the right way go for turbo its easier in the longrun ...but it you want to get out cheep .. do some of the minior boltons and spray the the hell out of it .. since this way you dont have use it all the time(unless you wanted to) you could just use it for the track..

they dont make a SC kit for the ZC but its simply changing out the intake manifold on the b16 to make the SC kit for the type R work .. good luck!! ive been in decsion for along time on SC,nitrous,or turbo,, i may just do a 50shot and call it a day

actually thay do...go here... http://www.mmrusa.com/jacksonracing.htm

or here http://www.psychotic-racing.com/forc...ckson%20Racing

or here http://www.cartoyscentral.com/supercha.htm ...good price!

I like the "idea" of a supercharger more then a turbo because a JRSC has a bypass valve that helps fuel economy and engine longevity when not in use. But for the $3000 price tag you could build 2 or 3 different junkyard turbo kits with many more possibilities..t3, t25 etc....that is why I recommended turbo over SC. the extra 2 grand you save can be used for something else!

well i'm about to find out the details in two weeks, however from what i've heard, its just little things you run into along the way. use the type R kit for starters. the heater hoses that go into the firewall get in the way, so i think the fix is to use 90 degree elbows on those. some say you have to relocate the fuel filter, which cant be too hard. i've also heard on some setups that you have to relocated the heater valve. i'm told that you'll need a fuel rail different from a b16a, since the regulator will hit the JR manifold. i just picked up a 99-00 civic si fuel rail for $20, problem solved. other than that, i wouldnt recommend using the JR fuel managment at all, since it is not accurate. my setup will consist of 450cc dsm injectors, and zip's SMC+ to control them. i will tune with a techedge wideband o2 monitor. dont listen to these turbo guys about cost. if you want a reliable FI setup, both SC and turbo will end up costing you the same. many will argue, but its true. i'll have about a total of 4000 into the SC setup once i'm finished. the actual kit was 2600 just to give you an idea of what everything else costs (fuel mgt, guages, etc). so to make up your mind, base it on what you're looking for. since mine is a daily driver, i wanted to make it as drivable as possible. i wanted instant boost when i got on the throttle, and fuel economy as mentioned above. the JRSC will give me all of this. sure the turbo guys will make more power, but the JRSC is all i need to be satisfied. i hope this helps you.

lol, there is a guy on this board with a yellow CRX in the orlando area that has the full-race manifold and a turbo on a stock B16. The only mod he has done to the engine is a thick head gasket to lower compression and the edlebrock intake. He daily drives it anywhere from 13-15 pounds and runs 12.08@117. I hope this answers your question.
