idling problems part 2
i searched throught the whole site and everyone has the same idling problems, mine started with running out of gas ( trying to drive on a 8th of a tank to street race)....the car wouldnt crank, i changed the fuel injectors...and that was fixed...then i starting having this idling prob....idling in neutral at 3000 rpms only when the car is moving.....when you stop it drops back to 1500-2000, i thought that it was the EGR system, nope i thought that it was the IAC valve, changed that, still does it, i thought that it was the map sensor, nope changed the throttle body and that means that the FIV and the tp are new.....has n e one heard of this kinda prob??? it idles like that only when you are driving (3000 rpms)......plus my a/f ratio is really lean..........
maybe try resetting the ecu (pulling the fuse for a while, then put it back)?
i dunno, maybe the ecu "learned" a map w/out fuel and won't go back??

My understanding of valve float is when your engine is revving faster than the valves can close. The stock valve springs have enough tension to close the valve in time for the next engine stroke. When you over-rev the engine the valve stays open slightly as the piston comes up. The piston would hit the valve and bend it in our engines.
Man I am having the same problem. I was up in Diego when this crap started happening. I was finding parking at the hotel I was staying at. I parked and my car started idling fron 1000-2000 rpm. My boyfriend reseted the ECU and it stopped occuring for awhile. It started up again the next day. I have no clue on what to do. I have a 94 Accord EX.
Have you tried manually adjusting the idle with the idle adjusting screw on the throttle body. it should be 700 +50 rpm at idle.
Ok I had this problem and just fixed it yesterday, I replaced my FAST IDLE THERMO VALVE this is the valve on the bottom of the throttle body. quick way to check if this is the part is to take off the intake, turn on the car and then look in the throttle body and cover the hole inside of the throttle body, before the throttle plate, with your finger. if your idle drops after the hole is pluged it is your fast idle thermo valve, this part is only $65-$75 dollars at honda and is easy to install yourself, it only took me about 1 hour.
Did you do the Idle Air Control Valve check? It's right behind your manifold. There's a wire harness that you're supposed to disconnect to see if that solves your problem.
They cost about $70 new from an autoparts store, but they will have to order it.
If you do this check with the harness and find that your Idle Air Control Valve is bad, I have one I can send to you for $25. I pulled it off a car at a junkyard. I put it on my car, and it didn't solve the problem. After that, I tried the Fast Idle Thermo Valve check described above, and I found that that was the culprit for my particular idling problem.
Let me know. jiggafan0322@aol.com
