for anyone with apexi worldsport exhaust... do you people have any problems with the heat shield rattling? I've heard of this problem with the apexi ws exhaust... anyone know if its safe to remove the heatshield? what is the heat shield shielding? also, if it is safe to remove it... how do i remove it? it seems like its welded on or something. do you ppl with apexi ws have this problem too?

 

very common problem. either bend out or remove the head shield and youll be fine.

 

I had the same problem with my N1. Just have a muffler shop bend the heatshields.

 

i tried bending it yesterday and i made it louder lol... now instead of a light rattle @ 3k rpm... it does it loudly at 2500 rpm and again slightly @3k rpm. just thinking of fixing it my self b/c i really have no time to goto a shop. is it safe to remove the upper portion of the heatshield?

 

I would think so but just to be on the safe side if you do this I wouldnt park on grassy areas

 

Just get a hammer and dolly and just leave some room for a homerun swing!!! It worked for me

 

just make sure it isnt the header rattle.

 

sadly mine is starting to do this too.

I looked at the shield but it isn't hitting it anywhere...if you pull the shield you can hammer it..

I might just remove mine.

 

I have the exhaust and it doesn't rattle
just make sure when it bends over the axle it isn't rubbing againt the bottom of the car itself.

I've had mone since 8/02 and have never had any problems or rattling for that matter. I think it's excellent. By comparison to other systems it is pretty quiet, which is what I wanted. Dont need 5-0 on my a$$

Are you sure it's coming from the exhaust and not the header/manifold? I had a rattle coming from the manifold, got it welded up, and it's all quiet now.

Also, I don't have any heatshields on my exhaust at all (stock exhaust), and I parked in 2 ft. tall grass one time, and it didn't do anything. I was actually surprised because I forgot that I didn't have heatshields when I first parked there.

 

the heat shield is above the piping isn't it?? and my apex ws makes noise once i get into vtec and release the throttle, let me know if taking off the heat shield solved your problem...thanks

 

k, took off the heat shield and the sound seems to have gone away. if i listen carefully i can still hear a slight sound but i think im just paranoid. the heat shield was rusted at the corners so they brok off and the vibration cause the rattling. fixed...

 

i'll take pics for you guys and show you where the rusted spots were... the whole thing took about 5 minutes to get off. the part that took me the longest was jacking up the car b/c my car is so low and i have to use some gay jacks cause the others don't fit. i need to rais my car a little more.

 

make sure you use good gloves if the exhaust is still hot. my cheap gloves now suffer war scars... there are also a lot of sharp edges so be careful
