Default Can you run v-afc without the vtec wire hooked up?

will this essentially make it a s-afc? i was running the vafc on my hx w/ greddy, but had disconnected the vtec control wire from the vafc. (caused some problems with the hx) had gone on the dyno, and above 5k i wasn't making power at all and powerband was erratic... thats my chart. ::thumbsdown::

now my tuner says he thinks that since the vtec wire isn't connected and the fuel settings for when the vafc vtec settings are dumping too much fuel at that rpm point and upwards...we even set teh vafc vtec crossover as low rpm as we could and still no luck. he says we should wire up a safc and see if we could tune it better.

my setup at the time was missing link, walbro 255 pump, 12:1 fmu, lude vtec injectors and the vafc controlling. now i had gone back to just stock injectors and no afc and everything is still fine.

but i would like to up my boost and start making the power i should above 5k rpm.

so after my rambles, essentially can the v-afc be used as s-afc without the vtec wire hooked up?

i tried a search, but turned nothing...unless i was searching the wrong words then on me

thanks all

okay, lets say you have a non-vtec motor, you could still use the VAFC for everything else besides setting vtec x-over point. you still tune the fuel with the VAFC if the vtec wire isnt hooked up. setting vtec at the lowest point is a no no. you should set the vtec point at a higher rpm, and see where you're lagging power, then set it there.

see the thing is, we made a few runs where we moved the vtec xover point to diff rpm points and it still gave no diff, i still get the erratic points above 5k. thsi is a hx motor with the vtec-e if that makes any diff.

so you didnt notice vtec engage at all? if so, check all your connections. vtec-e shouldnt make any difference

no no, the vtec was engaging, it was the ecu not the vafc controlling the vtec...

my question is will having the vtec wire disconnected would effect the way we couln't adjust the fuel above 5k no matter how much we leaned it out.

well if you did connect it, then it would still engage at factory settings unless you changed it. and if you didnt connect it, then it prolly would still engage, im not sure though
