Default Whats the best LSD for a GSR?

Hey can you guys give me a run down on the R's LSD and Quaifes. Advantages, disadvantages, Prices, where's a good place to get one etc.

PS. I may want to get a complete R tranny, cuz 3rd gear synchro's own me

Thanks! If you feel the need to add one feel free.

R LSD is a fine unit. But it's probably cheaper to just get the R tranny and do a full swap.

Quaife is warrantied...definately a plus...but an R LSD is pretty hard to break if you're just daily driving with the occasional track use.

Easiest/cheapest way is an R tranny unless you can tear into a tranny a la cheap.

yeah, i agree. I would just go out and find a type r tranny w/ lsd. Try going on recycler.com, I've seen them for around 1200.

ITR or Quaifes are good and don't require bebuilds like the Spoon Mugen Cusco or Kaaz. However these clutch type LSDs can have their torque biases custom tailored to your torque split needs. Clutch types can also pull the wheel out of your hand. Clutch types also NEED a special break in procedure.

hmmmm. Cuz I can take it all apart and put in the diff no problem...I've done this before, but if you think R tranny is better. my only concern is 800 for a quaife or 1200 for a typeR tranny?

Quaife is ideal...lifetime warranty, geartype, no oil...its preferred for sure.

But you can score an R LSD for around $300 which is killer. If youre getting a clutch/pp job in the meantime, it may run you another $50 to install the LSD. $350 as opposed to $850. If youve got the loot, go for Quaife, but the R LSD is a good affordable alternative.

ITR is the best bang for you your buck.

If you have the money go with the Quaife. I have one, had some problems and they warranted it. They have great service and helped out a lot, otherwise I wouldn’t recommend them. They stick by their word.

Would the shorter gears on the R tranny be suitable for forced induction? How much could you sell a GSR tranny for?

I had Cusco and loved it. Never any problems, never rebuilt it tho, dipped it before that would have occured.

Ive heard stuff about quaife and r ones giving out when you are in a situation like one wheel off the ground(whenever the *** that would occur?) or in water or ice with one wheel. But thats probably some riceboy story because they couldnt afford one.

Isn't the Quaife warrantied even under racing conditions ? That's a selling point to me... plus the GSR has nice ratios...

as in gear ratios? i would say the type R's shorter gearing is ideal for 95 percent or so applications. (and yes, the quaife is guaranteed for racing conditions)
