Coolant temp. sensor?
'91 CRX Si...
My ecu threw a code 6...
Does anyone know where the coolant temp sensor is located? I've got a multimeter to test the impedance and all that crap to see if the sensor is bad or not, but i can't find it in my chilton's...
Also, what does the sensor do? It's not my thermostat, it doesn't control my fan, my temp guage inside is working... the car isn't overheating...
Anyone with this experience, please help...
thanks a lot....

The sensor is located on the head. As you look at the engine it will be on the left side towards the front of the head.
The sensor is a themistor that changes its resistance as the car heats up to give your ecu an indication of engine temp.

so, what does the ecu do with the info that the sensor gives it?
(i just wanna know, in case i can't get it fixed for a little while)
and it's on the head... like, under the dist. cap? that sounds about right...
thanks

make sure you are completely full of coolant - the sensor sits high in the motor, above the top of the radiator - if you don't bleed the air out of the system, you can get an air lock which leaves the sensor above the coolant giving you a CEL - open the bleed valve on top of the thermostat housing and add coolant until it seeps out the valve - if you still get code, the sensor is probably bad.
no coolant sensor= no vtec. atleast on my car that is how it was. you know you car has to be a certain degree of warmth for it to engage vtec? well with the sensor out it doesn't read that temperature so it doesn't allow vtec. But what do I know i'm just a kid.
