What do ITR owners think of this..............
OK a friend of mine is looking at a Type R....and so was I until my recent racing tickets(whole nother story)... anyways it is a lease and the payments are 333 a month. It is a 2001 PY ITR. It has an Iceman intake, JDM type R header, Greddy exhaust, B. M Fuel Pressure regulator, Toda spec B cams, Crower springs and retainers, Skunk2 cam gears, Skunk2 reprogrammed ECU, OBD2- 1 conversion ( to run ECU), AEM underdrive pulleys, Z-10 radius arms, Carbon fiber hood, Neuspeed race springs.and it was all dyno'd and is running perfect. I know that is a lot of stuff, but the guy wants 6,000 dollars on top of taking the lease over. What I want to know is if he is making a smart decision with this car. What do you think?
you never know how hard the person drove that car, especially in an R with agressive mods like that. Those types of mods put wear and tear on the motor. Personally, I like to do all my things one step at a time, and personalize my car; not just take over on somebody elses project. It sounds like a fun car to drive though.
While those are some good mods, I would ask how do you know that it runs fine? Does he have all of the maint. records? Did he have a reputable shop put the mods on? I would tend to be very careful buing a car that had be worked on that much. Not to mention that the warranty is pretty much shot with all of those mods. Also why is he selling it?
Good luck in your decision.

Well, if there are no other R's available, he could buy that one and return it to stock. Does the seller have all of the original parts?
I would not buy that ITR. There are others that are out there. Just wait for the right one or you just might be buying someones problems
I think the guy that is selling the car is smoking crack for wanting 6k over what he owes on the lease.
Boba- who will only buy used ITR's from 72 old lawyers like NE_Hatch.

I agree with BlueG2.....if the guy is putting mods like that into the car, chances are that it wasnt to drive his 90 year old mother to church. It is pretty much a given that he has driven the car pretty hard. I would NOT want to take over a car with that much done to it already. Buy stock or near stock, and assuming you have the cash, make YOUR choice on part selections, and go to YOUR favourite shop to have the work done.

Just to counter what everyone always says about cars that are moded being driven hard..... I have a turbo on my car (not an ITR) and i don't drive hard very often. I would say 99% of my driving is cruising. of course, just because a car is stock doesn't mean it hasnt been driven hard either. The best bet it to look at the owner and think of how hard they would drive it. mods don't always equal a car that has been run to death. (not saying this one hasn't been though)
Sounds like a pretty nice setup, but I would also have to wonder why is the person selling it? THAT would be my question.
Dynoing it and making sure it doesn't have any problems are two different things. You'd have to take it to a mechanic who can tell if the engine is about to die or if it really is OK. Also want to make sure that it hasn't been in an accident.

even if you take over his lease payments, you're pretty much stuck with buying it at the end of the lease term - leasing companies do not like ANY modifications, let alone internal engine mods. do you know what his residual is (i.e. the $$ for the option to buy)? i would keep looking for another R if i were you.
Your friend should have a look at my '97:

adios,

adios,
OK well. I asked him all of these questions..........
The reasson why he is selling is because he also has a Hybrid hatch, 96 GSR, and a turbo hatch that he wants to spend more time and money on. He said the guys seems to know what he is talking about and is older and not a kid.
The residual buyout is 13,500 or something around that.

Oh and my dad is a mechanic and he is going to look over it for him. What should he look for? Should he do a ompression test?
