OBD1 Ecu on OBD2 Engine
Just got a chip for my car and my idle is now jumpy. I always heard it would be like that on cold starts while warming up the car. But mine is always jumpy. Anyway to fix it? And why does it do this?
OBD2 cars are prone to loping and rough idle with OBD1 ECU's. From previous posts, I've found that the P28 ecu in a DOHC VTEC OBD2 car causes the car to lope due to the purge solenoid in the chacoal canister. If you look near your battery, to the right there is a big black box on the firewall. That is the charcoal canister. If you disconnect the brown plug that goes into that, the surging should stop. If you do a search on this, you can find the exact reason, I don't remember exactly the details. Also, I find the real rough idle to happen mostly during warm days when my car has been sitting for a short period of time.
