Yeah, I've seen that before also. But it never ceases to amaze me. Goes to show what Dodge's venerable 2.2 liter Turbo engine from the 80's is capable of. That same powerplant came in many little FWD pocket rockets.
The highest performance versions were found in the limited production 1986 Shelby lancer, and 1992 Dodge Spirit R/T which had 224hp from the factory.

actually this isn't true. the lancer was 2.2 liter i'm pretty positive of it. the glh omni was 2.2liter turbo. the glhs was 2.2liter turbo intercooled. 152hp and then 174hp factory in a light *** car. they then put that 2.2 liter turbo intercooed in the charger, lancer and one of the daytona's. eventually they made the dodge daytona RT and the dodge spirit RT with the 2.5liter dohc turbo as compared to this minivans(which i had)2.5 liter single overhead cam turbo. My minivan was fast as *****.
I guess your right, the 2.2 liter was mainly in 80's models. I had an 86 Le Baron Turbo and that thing hauled ***! I used to beat up on GTI's and automatic Mustangs all the time (Back in 92). One thing I think you're mistaken about is the output of the ultra-rare '86 Shelby lancer, not the base Turbo Lancer, The Shelby. That car was one of the rarest and fastest. If my memory serves correct, It had 200 intercooled horses, custom seats, production # plate, etc. They actually still fecth decent money these days if they're in good shape/low miles. A guy I know has one that is modded and pumps out 300+hp, but he cant keep axles in the thing, so he barely uses it. The R/T spirit was an intercooled 2.5 Turbo then, also very fast.
you know i've seen that shelby lancer....but i guess i made the wrong assumption. didn't realize it was different then the normal 2.2turbo intercooled setups they were using with the dodge shelby charger the same year. good to know..i gotta look into that. thanks
Hehe, that's gonna be us when we're older... How does a boosted Odessey doing 12's sound? What would you do if you heard a Odessey drive by you and a BOV and saw an intercooler? Ooops, too bad they are auto and don't need a BOV...
Did you follow the links and get a look at the guy? Big ol' Bubba in his turbo minivan, what a sight that must be! Anyway I thought those old turbo Dodges were basically Mitsubishi motors? I know Crysler and Mitsu have been in bed together since the 80's.
Mitzu made some motors for chrysler yes....but not the 2.2 or 2.5 turbos. The only motors i think mitzu made(besides rebadged cars like the colt(mirage)/conquest(starion) was the 2.6liter 4cyl in the dodge caravan very early on like 84 or something. damn i know way too much of the chrysler crap. I guess i never mentioned i was a prepshop manager at a chrysler dealer from 1985-1988. I guess thats why i remember so much of this crap.
I'm 90% sure that the Spirit R/T engine was lower displacement than 2.5l. Somehow 2.2l sticks in my head, but it also could have been a 2.0l.....the head was prone to crack though....
ok, i just confirmed it was a 2.2L 16V DOHC 4cyl, 224 hp engine....

I guess i was under the assumption that when i was rebuilding my minivan motor that when i was attempting to get my head warrentied and replaced with the DOHC setup that the RT was a 2.5. Like i said...i worked there for 3 years but the RT came out much later
thanks

The "very" rare Daytona R/T's had 225ishHP and the head was done by Lotus.
thats the same engine as in the 91-92 Spirit R/T...and the head was a good flowing head, just prone to cracking...
Not sure... maybe?
I still would rather have the GLHS or a "lightened" Van (with a stick!)....to **** off people at the tack.
