Default V-AFC initialization settings? (Did a search already!!!)

Ok, so the v-afc is all wired up..... Thanks kenji

But now I have to initialize the damn thing?

I know the number of cylinders, but there's some other stuff I don't know:

sensors? 06 in and 06 out?

VTM wire? Do I connect that? I don't think so but somebody confirm?

Brown wire should be closer to the ecu than the black wire? What if it's not?

Thanks!

Sensors yes 06 in 06 out
Throttle diagonal up arrow, like /
Yes hook up the VTM wire (unless you don't want vtec anymore)
I'd wire it how they say, better safe than sorry..

speakin of the devil, anyone has some fairly baseline numbers to start the VAFC out at? i mean the + and - %s for all the throttle settings etc etc. just something to get started, or maybe just leaving it at default is ok until i take it to the dyno?

APEXi-USA.com has pdf files you can download with all the information you are inquiring about.

does anybody know if they have "suggested settings" for Field's Vtec/fuel controller too? that would be of a benefit to me...

thanks

Jason( typr98), i used to have a fields.
I leaned it out 5% all the way across and set vtec for 5000-5200.
But get a air fuel gauge and make it sure your motor stays in the rich.
But you could probably go 10%....that is with just bolt ons.

I have VTEC set at 5100 and I had it set at increasing intervals throughout the band, but it didn't seem to help at all. I do need to get an air/fuel ration gauge so I can really tell...

I was just looking for an idea as to what I should run and not be too little air or too much fuel.
Why should I have it too rich, shouldn't it be set to be equalized throughout, I thought that was the point of it, to compensate for mods that might have changed stock settings?

thanks

TypeR98,
Well, you need to the gauge so you know how your motor is running at certain rpms.
I changed intakes and needed to richen it at bottom and more lean up top.
Plus the fields only works at WOT, but you may need to richen it.
Get the gauge before you play around too much.
I say set it and then go driving and watch a/f gauge, set to be in middle of rich.
That seemed to work for me, dyno tune would do alot more.
But more lean the more power....just be careful.

Heh, yeah. Thanks Pat. After I talked to you I spoke to Jack. I think I woke him up at 9:30? (Sorry Jack! )

Anyway, we pretty much had it right... He said to set the correction rate to +/- 9% or +/- 15%, that it really doesn't matter. After I let him go back to bed, I looked at the manual again and it makes more sense now...

You wire the thing up and then turn the key to "on" but don't start the car. Then you to to "etc." menu and tell the vafc the number of sensors you have (6 in, 6 out), number of cylinders (4), and how the throttle is normally positioned when open and closed... you set it as an arrow going diagonally up from lower left to upper right - like this "/" You're supposed to check so you know how to set it by going to the sensor readings and leaving the throttle open for 10 seconds and looking at the voltage and then leaving the throttle closed for 10 seconds and looking at the voltage... Then you turn off the key and it is set. Next you simply crank her up! Done. I played with the display to see how to watch up to 4 different values at the same time, like throttle position, rpm, vtec input (from ecu) and vtec output (from vafc)...

One thing was weird though... When I went into vtec @ 5700 rpms, the input said off, but the output said on... Does that mean the ecu isn't putting out a vtec signal, but the vafc is? Why? I set the vafc at stock settings, so they should read the same thing...

Once again, thanks kenji!!! I wired everything up in ~5 minutes and it all sits in the stock place with a little pushing and shoving. Looks stock until you open the glove box.
