There still might be hope for me to attend the EXPO...
Well, my friend took off work for this and so did I. It *is* possible we might fly out.
1) Where can I find tickets the cheapest? I tried http://www.travelocity.com and those rates aren't the best around...
2) Where could we stay? Is there a good part of LA that someone could suggest? Somewhere that will also be close to tourist places to check out...someplace 'en route to Buttonwillow as well?
My friend and will rent a car out there if we end up making it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You could fly into San Jose and ride to BW with me and my friends, we still got two empty seats in the Suburban.

LA is the dirtiest, smoggiest and weirdest place I've ever been to. (my sis lives there).

Jeff652 ~ that is a possibility. I need to get a map. You see the thing is if we go, we want to do some tourist crap in the meantime before the EXPO. Like Tue-Thu or whatever.
Boba ~ how the hell did Carlex get such cheap tickets?!

Black R ~ uh...where are we going to rent a S2000?? I'm there dude. hehe.
Yoshi ~ wouldn't the plane tickets be a lot less to fly into Vegas?

Heh, yeah fly to vegas and then rent an s2000 and then drive to buttonwillow. And yes there are places you can rent an s2000..... Dunno how much that would be, but I think dc2kspecR rented one when he went to either AZ or NV..... Check the s2k boards for info.....
Fly back wherever you want from...
Vegas is nice and cheap to fly into, though...
Make sure you visit the bunny ranch while you're out there too!

I just got back from a week in Anaheim. I could not find any place in LA that I'd want to stay. I stayed in Disneyland. It's ok there, but it can be expensive.
You really think I should reconsider driving the R?
Let's think about this...financially how much it would cost driving VS flying.
Hypothetically (I don't feel like doing EXACT #'s) say it's approx 1500 miles...my R gets 25 mpg = 60 gallons to get there. Gas is approx $2 per gallon = $120 to get there...$120 back = $240 for gas. Not to mention all the driving I would be doing on the road course, etc. Could be as much as $400 total on gas alone.
$200 gets me road course time...
Now I haven't figured in hotel stays. Not sure how much it'll be for sure, but I'll *guess* @ $85 per night (conservatively). I would leave on Tuesday and plan on being back in Omaha on Tuesday. That's 6 days of hotel stays (wherever they might be). Approx = $510
Food...hmm...I could eat 2 meals a day. Approx $7 per meal = $14 per day +/-. (More on the + side since I'd like to eat someplaces that are good for dinner). = $100 for the whole 7 days...but I would put that on the WAY low side. More like $200 for food.
Gas (split) $200 each
Road course $200
Hotels (split) $250 each
Food $200
Grand total: $850
Damn...

Add the food and some of the gas costs to the plane ticket, add the daily cost of rental car, and see how it comes out.
Okay...plan B.
Plane ticket ~ $250-350 (?)
Food $200
Hotel $ 500-ish
Car rental $100-200 (?)
No track time, but banquet (?) $50
= $1100-1300 ?!
This is if we flew into Vegas. I'm sure if we flew into Cali somewhere the costs would be a bit different obviously.

the buttonwillow motel rooms are ~30-35$
on-route it's a blast looking at the motel signs that say 24.99/single ... motel 8, super 6 etc.
you won't need to rent a car (more $ in pocket)
so you'll put a few miles on the car (let's just say you already saved them up)
You'll get to see how you (in your car) compare with everyone else -- priceless

I'm not sure what tourist stuff you would do in LA, maybe look at teenage runaway hookers in Hollywood? On the way to Buttonwillow from LA is Magic Mountain if you like roller coasters. If you go to Vegas first, factor in loosing cash at the casino to the expense log.
damnit, todd! you have a different expo story every week. just go.
try hotwire.com for airfares. i don't know anything about them except that they've been blitzing the local radiowaves.
driving would be far better. besides, your itr gets 30mpg highway and i doubt you'll use that much gas on the track, certainly not as much as you predicted. hotels are cheap ~ $30ish to sleep with roaches. food will definitely cost more; i remember you being well fed, haha!!!
i'll join you guys next year; hopefully the expo will be nearer. ct and ca are only close alphabetically.

Good point...I didn't even figure in spending $$.
Bunny ranch, etc.
Not sure if this will happen, but my roommate really wants to go as do I.
