Default 90-91 Si guage cluster....electronic?

Is the 90-91 Si clusters electronic or mechanical? I'm going to install a B16A into my 91 Si and I want the speedo to read correctly. I think the JDM SiR cluster is electronic so I'm thinkin the B16A needs a electronic cluster...not sure though. Is modification involved with the Si unit, what will I need to do to get it to read correctly or will it read accurately the way it is?

right.

USDM 88-91 Si gauge clusters use cable vss.
