How did this happen to my tire? PICS

I have brand new Falken Azenis 205/50/15 on my 99 Si.
One (right front) has several gashes from rubbing something.
Look at them and tell me why they are a bunch of deep gashes, the only thing I can think of is at the top of the wheel well arch, on the fender, some of the metal underneath was sticking down. I am going to pound it up w/ a rubber mallot. Does it look like that's what the problem is?
Help me out.

Thanks

looks like it was rubbing on the fender. maybe you had some extra weight on it and didnt notice. my friends lowerd truck had the same thing after he had a bunch of bricks in the bed.
yeah we are the ones with the truck that had or shall i say has the gouges out of them from the bricks, are they in the front or back? if they're in the back you probably had a lot of weight or your lowered too much. what kind of suspension do you have?
edit: i saw it was in the front.

Not sure how low your car is, but my friend was running tucked and was rubbing on something protruding inside. Eventhough your fenders are rolled, do you occasionally rub when you hit a bump on the freeway or anywhere?
