Default Compression Test Numbers For my 98 LS

Cylinders:

1: 152 2: 150 3: 150 4: 150

Are these numbers low for my LS?? I'm worried because i'm going to be boosting soon, and didn't want to **** anything up.

Those numbers are fine.

They are slightly lower than I've seen from some LS's, but they are consistent, and it this case that is more important.

Cool, I wasn't too sure what would be too low. If you have high milage on your car, there might be carbon deposits that up the compression naturally

^^^ a must. if you do not, you will get low compression results.

Yeah I think those numbers are fine. There all really close which is what really matters. Sometimes the gauges are off. I tested my old supra with 2 brand new gauges and the numbers were off by like 30psi/per cylinder between the two gauges. Just worry mainly about the difference between the cylinders, unless you have other reasons to assume your engine isn't healthy.

those numbers are fine but remember that it makes a big difference if the motor was warmed up or not.

It should also make a difference what gauge you used. It's only really fair to compare the actual pressure numbers if different engines were measured with the same gauge. The internal volume of the gauge makes a difference.

If somebody told you that your engine had 220psi numbers when it was new, now its only 185psi, you'd probably worry. But that's only fair if they were measured with the same gauge.

What about if my battery was dying throughout the test. I had to charge my battery through my friends car, while we were doing it.

Yeah, I guess that would influence it, too. If it cranked at the same rpm for all 4 cylinders, that's good. If it cranked slow for a couple cylinders, then you got the jumper cables for the remaining cylinders, that's not good. It's important to do them all the same way. If it cranked slower than normal, it would explain why your numbers are lower than other people's numbers.
