new bulbs.. (corners, etc..)
Want to get some new bulbs in my R this week.... anyone have good experience with any particular brands? I need them for my signals/sidemarkers AND my lowbeams. I am not sure if I am supposed to get new highbeam bulbs...do peopel usually match those. I don't want something outrageously bright that will make people flash their brights at me, nor do I want any that attract all of the cops attention. It would be nice to have stronger low beams and an overall nicer and more WHITE bulb look on the car.
Forgot to mention.. I am worried about the bulbs frying the stock bulbs fixtures/housings. I heard the aftermarket bulbs melt something. Anyone know of any that dont do this.
Thanks,
Jon

one thing i heard was those xenon bulbs that cost like i dunno 30 bucks? they look like the real hids but they burn out in like 3 months so dont get those...why dont u just get the phillips HID conversion kit? thats what im gonna do...its sorta expensive i've seen it from 450-800 dollars, not including installation...but then you would have better low beams, they're legal so u wont get ticketed, and they look reallllll nice

I know a kid w/ a PY itr and he had the piaa superwhites in before getting the hids...they looked nice, they were a lot brighter than my stock lights cuz he was next to me and we both had our lights on...but i think they burn out pretty fast too..as for the melting the casings and stuff i have no idea but that would suck if it happens...i guess u should just ask the manufacturer/distributor that kinda stuff before u buy and make sure its warrantied
If you dont want to have the melting plug problem get a set of PIAA but dont bother with the superwhites they look stock the Plasma PIAA are very nice and look just like HID just not as bright As HID

Mike,
Thanks for the advice.
Anyone know a good place to get those for cheap?
Which bulbs are available and most commonly purchased (low beams, blinkers, what else?)? Do they make the matching PIAA plasmas for all of these applications.

Jon,
I have the PIAA superwhites and they are brighter that the stock ones, not too bright. the lighting is more clear, doesn't have that duel hue. as far as the housing melting/ burning, I haven't had that experience. I might consider the Plasma lights If you want that HID look.

Will the plasmas look more bluish purple than white? Anyone have pics of either lighting sets on their car?
Thanks,

I am really considering the PIAA Plasmas? Are those the same thing as the PIAA Plasma Blues?
I am not sure, but I looked around a bit, and I found the following model number: PIA-9005B (PIAA Plasma Blue). I am not sure how to find the bulbs. I want the PIAA Plasmas for all of the my bulb spaces in my car. Will I just be replacing the turn signal bulbs and low beams? And could someone help me in finding the model number for the Plasmas that I need.
Thanks,
Jon

Just for reference if needed. I can't seem to find which ones all match eachother and which ones I should buy. The HID look would be nice to have, so I guess I need the Plasma ones....but they make like "Super Plasmas" and "Plasma Blues". However, I noticed that in the H4 bulb section it says that the Xtreme white bulb is "the closest color
yet to H.I.D. ( High Intensity Discharge). Hmmm.. confusing. Who knew getting light bulbs could be so annoying

I have PIAA Superwhites.. They are more white than the stock bulbs, but are definately not HID. Never had any problems with any melting, and I have had the bulbs for about 8 months with no burnout yet....knock on wood.
Jon i have the SuperPlasmas in stock very nice looking, The Plasma Blue arent available in the tegs sizes, Also I dont think that PIAA makes any sidemarker bulbs that match either of the above bulbs
If you would've done a search you would've seen my thread:

I have Nokyas and they do look good. White with pretty much no blue.
When I had my clears on my GSR, I used Raybrigs for them, but they are a little bluish. No melting or discoloring. Just make sure you get the right wattage bulb, and you should not have a problem. Stuck with the ambers on the R.

PIAA Platinum Series (Superwhites) is what you want. I bought these two years ago and they have NOT burned out! I got mine for $60/pair from Options Auto Salon ( http://www.optauto.com ). I was driving behind Josh (Black ITR 547) last night and he even said these have NO hint of blue.

You want the polarg m12's (1157) item #: M12 and piaa hid plasma wedge bulbs (168) item #: 19170 for the front bumper lights and turn signals. These will match HID's or HID-look headlights!
1) ________ (turn signal)
2) ________ (low beam)
3) ________ (etc.. any others)
My friend keeps pushing me to get the Raybrig bulbs that are supposed to resemble HID, because he says they actually flicker like HID. Do the PIAA Super Plasmas flicker too?
Sorry if the posts seem like they are draggin out. I appreciate all of your opinions, I am just having a little trouble finding the exact model#/name of of all of the bulbs I need.
Thanks,
Jon
Do people actually put HID look bulbs in their turn signals .. seems stupid trying to get the HID look in a place HID's would never be.
Don't most people go with the HID look in the low beams, and than the Superwhite look in the signals?

Polarg is the company name. M12 is the Polarg number (1157 is the standard bulb identification) I have used those also, and they are a little whiter than the Raybrigs, but still have some blue to them.
The Raybrig wedge (style 168) matches the Polarg M12 fairly well. Not sure about the PIAA 19170.
No standard bulbs flicker like hids, and it is irrelevant anyway.

Ok, I see you are confused.
The bulbs I gave you part #'s to are both for the front bumpers. One set is for the turn signals and the others are running lights...
As far as headlights go, I haven't replaced them. Stockers work just fine. I'm not paying $100 for a set of bulbs anyway. I will eventually go with the phillips HID kit which is actual HID. The bulbs I mentioned above match that kit very nicely.
Save your $ and buy something to make your car faster.

Also, if you have more questions about bulbs, colors, compatibility, call the people at wholesalehyperformance.com and they'll tell you what matches and looks good, performs well, etc...
